Today, we will travel north from Boston to historic Marblehead, the birthplace of the American Navy. We will visit Abbot Hall to head a short lecture and view the original painting "The Spirit of 76." Afterwards, we will continue to Salem, where we will take some time to explore the various attractions and museums on our own. With our special discount cards, we will get to pay a special discounted admission rate to Nathaniel Hawthorne's Custom House, the House of the Seven Gables, and the Salem Witch Museum. We can also have a delicious lunch at Pickering Wharf. Afterwards, we will return to Boston.
  • Marblehead, MA

    A historic American town that has retained its colonial atmosphere, Marblehead is considered the birthplaces of the American Navy. Abbott Hall is home to the famous painting "The Spirit of 76."

    Abbot Hall

    Abbot Hall in Marblehead is the central office for the town's government. It also houses "The Spirit of 76," a famous painting of the American Revolution by Archibald MacNeal Ward.
  • Salem, MA

    Salem is a city on the north coast of Massachusetts above Boston. It is well known for several local landmarks including Witch House and the Peabody Essex Museum with a rebuilt Qing-era Chinese house.

    House of the Seven Gables

    A large colonial mansion that has been converted into a museum, the House of the Seven Gables was made famous by Nathaniel Hawthorne in his novel of the same name. It is a National Historic Landmark.

    Salem Witch Museum

    This kitschy show in historic Salem, Massachusetts uses wax figures to give visitors an overview of the Salem Witch Trials. Its fun gift shop and unique presentation make is a tourist favorite. It may be scary for young children.

    The Custom House

    The site of a custom house since 1649, Salem's current historic customs building was erected in 1819. It was once the office of American writer Nathaniel Hawthorne.
