Day 1: Boston-Plymouth-Providence-Newport-Boston (183 miles)

Passengers will be picked up in Boston and Quincy in the morning. Our first stop of the day will be historic Plymouth, MA, where we will see Plymouth Rock, visit the Plimouth Plantation, Plimoth Grist Mill and Mayflower II. We will also learn about the history of the local Wampanoag tribe of Native Americans.

From here we will continue on to Newport, RI, where we will visit the illustrious Breakers Mansion before concluding our tour and returning to Boston.

Plymouth is a coastal town in Massachusetts, south of Boston. It is the site of the first Pilgrim settlement, founded in 1620. Plymouth Rock, a boulder in Pilgrim Memorial State Park, marks the place where settlers are thought to have landed on shore.

  • Plymouth Rock in Plymouth, Massachusetts is an important cultural landmark in the Unites States. It is considered to be the place where European pilgrims first landed and established what would become the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1620.

  • A replica of the original 17th century ship that ferried the Pilgrims across the Atlantic before they founded the Plimoth Plantation settlement, the Mayflower II allows visitors to get an idea of what the voyage to the New World meant.

    Mayflower II will leave Plymouth for major repair starting Nov. 1, 2016, return time is estimated in 2018. In Winter, it will be alternated by Brown University and RI State House.

  • Nestled alongside bucolic Town Brook, and just a short walk from the waterfront and Mayflower II, the Plimoth Grist Mill tells the story of the grist (corn grinding) mill built by the Pilgrims in Plymouth Colony. After more than a decade of laboriously grinding corn by hand in wooden mortars, the colony authorized the construction of a water-powered corn grinding mill on Town Brook in 1636.

Providence, founded in 1636, is the capital and most populous city of the U.S. state of Rhode Island and is one of the oldest cities in the United States. The city is situated at the mouth of the Providence River at the head of Narragansett Bay.

  • Brown University, one of New England's prestigious Ivy League universities, was established in 1764 - before the foundation of the United States - and has become one of the most renowned institutions of higher education in the world.

  • The Rhode Island State House is the capitol building of the state's government. It is a grandiose neoclassical style building reminiscent of the US Capitol in Washington, DC. Built in 1895, it is part the National Register of Historic Places.

Newport is a high end New England seaport town, extremely popular among the mega-rich of America. Travel along Ocean Drive to get beautiful scenic views and see the magnificent Breakers Mansion. It is a short drive from Boston.
