As guests arrive in Havana, they will transfer to the hotel. There are no activities planned for today, so guests may relax or go explore the city at their own pace. They will find magic as they adventure through the streets and past the crumbling architecture of the old city and sit on the famous sea wall, El Malecon.
Before departing Havana, we will go on a walking tour of the historic city center for about two hours. Our next destination is the valley of Vinales, about a 4 hour drive from Havana. We will have the remainder of the day to explore this culturally rich city at our own leisure.
We will have another day to explore Vinales. There is so much to do in this magnificent valley that is surrounded by picturesque limestone pincushion hills. We will have the option to explore caves, hike, ride bikes, horseback ride, or simply enjoy the views of the valley and sprawling tobacco fields. This is one of the most agriculturally productive areas of Cuba, so there is an abundance of seasonal fruit and vegetable on offer, such as enormous avocados and mangos, pineapples, papaya, guava, and several varieties of sweet potatoes. There is also a very active nightlife in this village.
Vinales - Havana - Bay of Pigs - Cienfuegos (239 km)
Today, we will drive from Vinales to the city of Cienfuegos, founded by the French. Our route will take us back through Havana and along the famous Bay of Pigs, where, in 1961, counter-revolutionary exile militia landed. There is a museum in the area that details this conflict. We will also make a stop at a beautiful cenote, where we can take a swim and go to a nearby beach (if the conditions are favorable). When we reach Cienfuegos, we will be able to take in the magnificent ambience.
