On this tour, guests will choose to visit 2 of the 3 plantation below. They will be picked up from the specified departure locations in
New Orleans. The first of the plantation is
Oak Alley Plantation, built in 1839, and we will hear fascinating stories of its history. This plantation was the setting for the film
Interview with a Vampire, among others.
Laura Plantation is an operational sugar farm built in 1805, and offers what has been called the "best history tour in the US." The tour is based on 5,000 pages of documents found in the French National Archives and the personal writings of Laura herself. This offers a personal look into the lives of slaves and their owners.
The third plantation is the Whitney Plantation, the only plantation museum in Louisiana that focuses on slavery through exhibits, memorial artwork, restored buildings, and hundreds of first-person slave narratives. At the end of the day, we will return to New Orleans, where guests will be dropped off. Please see "Departure and Return" for more detailed information regarding pickup and drop-off times and locations.
