It's such a beautiful place and so much to explore, one day is not enough. I will go again when its summer. I went last year Fall 2015, and that's the best time to go because of the changes in leaf colors, Looked so beautiful
Bus was on time, clean and comfortable. This is not a guided tour, just the bus ride. You need to redeem the tickets at the ticket counter in Port Authority Bus Terminus. The bus will drop you in front of the Bear Mountain Inn. Grab a trail map from the Inn reception, and start hiking. We hiked up the Appalachian Trail to the Perkins Tower (which is also the highest point, nice views) and came back down the Major Welch trail. Trails are well marked, but certain sections (especially on MW trail) can be tough for novices. Better check with the nice people at the Inn or fellow hikers for suggestions. The Inn has a basic cafe and a restaurant. We may stay there a night next time. Overall good trip!
The trip was awesome. The place is so beautiful. I went up the mountain, and because I get tired easily, it took me 1.5 hours to get up, but for a fast pace walker or climber it will take like 45 minutes. We didn't get enough time to finish seeing the whole place but was worth it. I couldn't see because I got so tired from walking up the mountain.
Very beautiful site to see during fall. We had the Appalachian trail and also walked along the lake side. Last year, we also we went during the same time in October, but it was more beautiful colors. The tour is really worth it.
We had a wonderful day. The bus was on time and the place was very nice and beautiful. Quite a number of choices of hiking routes, from easy to difficult. I also enjoyed the walk around the lake. Would recommend this trip.
Bear Mountain State Park was awesome...
Some friends and I decided to go in winter for the very first time... and of course we're planning to in summer too - even with the cold - the place is amazing... it was worth every view!!!
It's a nice day getaway, there is so much to do, so an independent tour like this is the best way to go. I love that in such a short ride away, you're in nature with trails, and you could hike or swim in the pool, or paddle boat, or just relax and do nothing, it's all up to you.
I had an awesome time hiking for the first time alone through Bear Mountain! I was pleased with the ride there and back with the bus leaving right on time. Bear Mountain is such a beautiful place full of green covered mountains and with a view of the Hudson that will amaze you! The Appalachian trail, which is the one that I took, was relatively easy. There are plenty of markings to ensure that you don't get off course, but if you're confused there were always other hikers there to help!
Bear Mountain was wonderful, you pay one price and have access to everything in the park. The trails, the lake, the zoo, and the views were awesome. A great place for everyone, and something to do for everyone.
My experience was just wonderful. It was very cold outside but this made an unforgettable experience of snow and ice. The ice skating was closed on Thursdays and that isn't on the TakeTours website but I still made the best of it and enjoyed the free zoo and hiking. A very romantic getaway! The restaurant on the 2nd floor was outstanding to warm up with hot chocolate and soup, and all the staff was very friendly! I will be going back for sure!
I had a really good time at bear mountain. The experience was simply awesome, bus was punctual and the drive was mind blowing. Bear mountains have everything in store for you, starting from Trekking, Pool, fishing, Amazing views, nice playground, picnic spot and what not.. Thank you TakeTours!!!!
I had a really good time at bear mountain but it would be better if i go there during weekend. Every stores, and activities were closed, and i had to come back at 3:19pm. But it was simple and nice exprience. Thank you TakeTours!
Went to Bear Mountain for the first time a few days ago Fantastic experience.
It is an easy day trip from NYC. Booked through taketours. simple booking and bus was punctual both to and from NYC.
There are several trails. It took me 2 hours up and 1 hour down. (we took the most challenging trail up and the AT down bc it has steps as opposed to steep rocks). Breath-taking views.
Definitely recommend this trip and we will be returning regularly.
The bus was prompt in both direction. You will have enough time for all activities if you take the 8:45 am bus from NYC & take back the 5:19 pm bus back to NYC during weekends. The view from the Perkins tower was amazing & worth the hike.
Took the trip this past Sunday July 29th. It was Great! The ride was not too long, the view is Out Of This World and most of all we enjoyed the Trailside zoo. I would recommend this trip to all my frieds. Great place for family BBQ's.
Thoroughly enjoyed the trip. My Husband and me went last week. This is not really a tour package but a bus trip that takes you to Bear mountain and drops you back at Port Authority. We did the Trek, which is a little challenging , and even kids do this trek. It took 2.5 hours to go up, enjoy the view for a few minutes and then come down. Good to do the trek in the morning. There is a zoo, swimming pool and picnic areas to enjoy, aside from the trek. Perfect one day trip for a peaceful yet nearby and inexpensive getaway.
I took the yesterday ..on my birthday .. it was a nice one ... cheap and not far away from NYC .. the views r really scenic ... and really love it .. I already upload n share some of my photos here .. I went there at 8:45 and come back at 3 pm ... I just wanna say it's kinda tight schedule ... I need to go rush :( .. apart from that.. the trip is perfect ...
This was not really a tour, just bus service directly to bear mountain. this site only has the 8:45 and 11:15AM schedule but it actually goes there every hour. its a good place to spend if you like hiking or fishing.
My husband and I went to Bear Mountain for a day to escape the chaos of the city, and it was beautiful. The bus dropped us off there around 10:45 AM, picked us up around 3:30 PM, we took the nature walk, went to the pool, $2 each, and had some food, and took a boat out on the Hessian lake!!! It was very nice, and not costly!!! Beautiful views, and just very quiet and relaxing :) I wish we had more time before heading back, but there isn't too much flexibility with the timing. On weekends, buses head back to NY around 5:00, but weekends are also more crowded. I went on a thursday and enjoyed the peace :)
I went to Bear mountain on July 5th. I loved it.. I think there is so much to do... There is skating, football fields, basketball fields, row boats for the lake (very cheap), the nature walk and zoo, the foot pool (my favorite) and of course great for bbqing and picnicking. Activities for the kids and some local craft shopping. I overnighted at the lodge and loved it. there are also individual cabins for more privacy.
Not a tour, simply a bus drops you off. Not nothing to do there if it is cold other than the small zoo which is pretty good. Catching the 11am bus would give enough time to see the view - nothing to special there unless you want to go fishing or hiking or unless it is summer.
