  • The 3 hour ride back and forth with shortline, as well as the tours of the vanderbilt mansion and the FDR estate were enjoyable and punctual. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that shortline had given us a ticket for 10 discount on lunch at a restaurant close to the FDR estate (the second tour site). Unfortunately, the restaurant was not open when we arrived there. It would not open until 4pm that afternoon. Recommendations: (1) ask short-line to double-check that the place it plans to take you to for lunch will be open during the early afternoon; (2)when you get to the vanderbilt mansion admin office let the customer service rep know that you came with shortline so that he could call and arrange for the taxi company to pick you up after the tour; and (3) note that there is a cafeteria on the FDR estate for guests; (4) if the next tour if the FDR estate is at 3pm and you want to see the museum and library then consider ask whether there is a later tour. If there is take the later tour and instead visit the museum and library first. Why? Because the library and museum closes at 4pm; and (5) take some time to explore the vanderbilt grounds while you await your tour guide. If forgot to do that. Above all, enjoy as I enjoyed.
