Spend the morning at Mount Vernon, George Washington’s famous Virginia estate and farm. Situated on the banks of the Potomac River, this important historical site consists of 500 beautifully maintained acres of country fields and gardens. Enjoy lunch on your own while visiting this beautiful property that belonged to the first President of the United States of America. Next we’ll visit the quaint seaport town of Old Town Alexandria to see some of the original architecture and hallowed sites of colonial America. Step off the coach and visit Christ Church, attended by famous Virginia generals George Washington and Robert E. Lee, as well as many historic 17th and 18th century homes.
Later in the day, we’ll board the Arlington National Cemetery’s lectured tram to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and witness the unforgettable Changing of the Guard ceremony. We’ll also visit the Kennedy Family gravesite, where President John F. Kennedy and Senators Bobby and Ted Kennedy are laid to rest, as well as the eternal flame that honors their memory.
After we leave the cemetery, we’ll take a sightseeing tour of other famous national memorials, including the Marine Corps Iwo Jima Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans and Korean War Memorials, and the Lincoln Memorial. In addition, we’ll be able to get looks a the Washington Monument, the U.S. Capitol Building, the National Japanese American Memorial, the Robert A. Taft Memorial and Carillon, the Mellon Fountain, the East and West Wing of the National Gallery of Art, the National Archives, the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, and the beautiful Potomac River.
