Day 1: Bogota

Today you will arrive in Bogota El Dorado International Airport (BOG)! Free airport pick-up time: 15:00 and 21:00. Please make sure to meet with our staff at the listed time slots with your claimed baggage. After greeting you, you will be arranged to check in at the hotel to rest and recharge for the wonderful journey ahead.

Day 2: Bogota - Zipaquira (71 km)

After breakfast, we will drive to the famous Catedral de Sal. This Salt Church is built 180 meters underground, and more than 250 tons of salt was removed in order to build it. The cathedral houses numerous art collections made of salt and marble, which is really an architectural wonder. Afterwards, follow us and head to Laguna de Guatavita, which is said to be the center of the "El Dorado". After the tour, drive back to Bogota and check in.
  • Zipaquira, Colombia

    Zipaquira is a city of some 70,000 people about an hour north of Bogota, in Cundinamarca. It is Colombia's salt mining capital, and most famous for its Salt Cathedral, constructed almost entirely of salt within a now defunct mine.

    Catedral de Sal

    Come and enjoy the magic of salt! Located 200 meters (660 ft) underground is a Roman Catholic church building that is completely carved with salt. The icons, ornaments and architectural details are hand carved in the halite rock. Some marble sculptures are included. The cathedral is considered to be one of the most notable achievements of Colombian architecture, being described as a "Jewel of Modern Architecture."

    Laguna de Guatavita

    Lake Guatavita is a small body of water in a forest-fringed crater, located northeast of Bogota in central Colombia. It was a sacred site to the Muisca people, that elaborated gold offerings into its depths. It has inspired the legend of El Dorado and several ill-fated attempts to drain the lake. It also contains many great trails and is easily the most perfect destination for true nature lovers.

Day 3: Bogota Airplane to Medellin (237 km)

Today we will go to visit the most prestigious gold museum in South America. Colombia is rich in gold and is known as the "land of gold". The Museo del Oro, or the Gold Museum houses the largest collection of gold objects in the world, with more than 26,000 gold objects of immeasurable value. There is also much jade ware on display in the museum, including the largest jadeite in the world. You can appreciate the valuable collections to learn more about the Indian culture. Following, we will head to Montserrat Mountain! Taking on the cable car, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the whole city. After dinner, our staff will transfer you to the airport and you will take a flight to Medellin (without guide's company on the plane), the second largest city in Colombia.

    Museo del Oro

    Museo del Oro is Bogota's most famous museum and one of the most fascinating in all of South America.     Monserrate

    Monserrate is a high mountain over 10,000 feet high in elevation that dominates the city center of Bogota. It rises to 3,152 meters above sea level. There is a church with a shrine, devoted to El Senor Caido. To get to the top of mountain faster, you can take a funicular or cable car. However, the pedestrian path is ideal for anyone wanting to truly enjoy nature views along the way.

Day 4: Medellin City Tour

This morning we will take a tour of the city of Medellin. The most thrilling spots are El Pueblito Paisa and Plaza Botero for their close connection with local artist Fernando Botero. And you will see many masterpieces created by him! At noon we will have a meal in the coffee plantation. You can experience the fun of coffee picking in the afternoon.

    El Pueblito Paisa

    Pueblito Paisa is a replica of a turn-of-the-century town located in the hills of Medellín and offers people a chance to experience the true traditional Antioquian culture. The Pueblito consists of a town square with a fountain at its center, colorfully-painted buildings, a beautiful white church, and green gardens completed with surrounding walking tracks and an outdoor gym. Here, you’ll find cobblestone streets, colorful buildings and amazing views of the city. Additionally, the famous Museum of the City (Museo de Ciudad) is located here and is definitely worth visiting.

    Plaza Botero

    Botero Plaza is surrounded by the Museum of Antioquia and the Rafael Uribe Palace of Culture which is a 7,000 sq meter outside park that displays 23 sculptures by the famous Colombian artist Fernando Botero. He donated these and several other artworks for the museum's renovation in 2004. The plaza is located in an area of Medellin, known as the "Old Quarter."

    Coffee Plantation

    Colombia is the second largest coffee exporter in the world. It mainly produces Arabica coffee, which is mainly processed by water washing. It displays an excellent and balanced flavored quality coffee. The coffee beans produced in Medellin are full of particles, rich in nutrients, moderate in acidity and good in balance. Today, you will experience the fun of coffee bean picking, which you definitely don’t want to miss out on.

Day 5: Medellin Suburbs Tour

Let's get up and explore Guatape!  Here stands Laguna de Guatape with 649 ladders! When climbing to the top of this large rock, you can overlook the whole town and the lakes around it. We will then return to the hotel for lunch at noon and in the afternoon, you can enjoy some free shopping time!

    Laguna de Guatape

    This is the most perfect place to discover natural beauty and enjoy the rocky islands surrounded by blue water. It is a magnificent sight to discover. You can even observe this serene beauty from the top of Penol rock, which is located just nearby.

    El Penon de Guatape

    The El Penon de Guatape or Piedra de Penol, is a massive stone that rises over 650 feet out of the flat ground of Guatape. The rock, which is almost entirely smooth, has one long crack that climbers use in ascending it. In the crack was later wedged a 649-step masonry staircase and the only way to get to the top of the Piedra de Penol. You can ascend the rock along the staircase to overlook the dramatic series of the lakes and islands nearby.

Day 6: Medellin Airplane to Cartagena (8411 km)

Day 7: Caribbean Island One-day Trip

Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and visit the beautiful Rosario Islands! Take a motorboat from Cartagena and head to the picturesque natural wonders in the turquoise crystal-clear waters. Take a look at the breathtaking beautiful beaches and unique coral reefs. Discover Pirate Island which is the smallest island in the archipelago, but definitely the prettiest. Compared with the other surrounding islands, Pirate Island is a much quieter place to visit with fewer tourists around. You can swim and snorkel in the azure waters or relax on the soft sandy beaches to take in all the sunshine!
  • El Rosario and San Bernardo Corals National Natural Park, Colombia

    The Rosario Islands are a small archipelago of a few islands, located approximately two hours by boat from Cartagena de Indias. This place was declared as a national park due to the needs of preserving and protecting the coral reefs and associated ecosystems which include sea grasses, mangroves, and many other species of algae and animals living on the Caribbean coast.

    Including national park ticket, lunch, and round-trip speedboat transfer services from the Cartagena hotel to the national park, you can also visit the aquarium or go diving at your own expense

Day 8: Cartagena

After breakfast we will go to Castillo San Felipe de Barajas, the largest Spanish colonial fortress located on the San Lazaro hill. It was built by the Spanish in 1536 after constant attacks by Britain and France during the colonial period. It is still preserved to this day.

    Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas

    Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas is a fortification of Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. It is located on a hill called San Lazaro and was built in 1657 during the Spanish colonial period. In 1984, UNESCO listed this location as a historical center of Cartagena Indian City and Saint Philippe de Barajas Castle on the World Heritage list. It is considered to even be one of the seven wonders of Colombia and one of the largest buildings built on the Colombian territory.

  • Language: All tours are escorted by professional bi- or multi-lingual tour and/or driver guides (English/Chinese). Depending on the number of passengers booked for a particular departure, tours and/or languages may be combined to operate the tours.
  • This tour does not accept any City Pass or your own tickets for the attraction. Passengers who take this tour need to purchase admission tickets from tour escort upon arrival.

Confirmation

  • All purchases are subject to re-confirmation within 2-3 business days after booking. Please do not book the airline tickets until you received the confirmation.

Redemption

  • Please take your valid ID card or passport along on your trip and show your e-tickets directly with your mobile phone. You do not need to print out the e-tickets. Passport must be original. If necessary please take along the copy of it and photos as well.

Terms & Condition

  • Booking changes
    A fee may be charged for any revision or alteration made to a reservation after the booking is confirmed. Name changes or corrections may be treated as a cancellation and cancellation fees will apply. A change of tour date or tour itinerary may be treated as a cancellation, and normal cancellation fees will apply. Please be noted that we do not allow departure change 48 hours before departure.
  • Cancellations and Cancellation Fees
    Regardless of reason, cancellations result in costly charges from our travel and hotel providers covering penalties and fees incurred by canceling confirmed and pending bookings. Therefore, cancellation penalties and or fees will apply. The time of cancellation will be determined when notice is received and confirmed by our office. Notice of cancellation must be made directly to TakeTours by email or through webmail at Contact Us .
  • Cancellation penalties per person (request day and departure day are not counted)
    15 days or more prior to departure - Free cancellation with full refund.
    8-14 days prior to departure - 50% of total purchase amount.
    Within 7 days prior to departure or no show - 100% of the total purchase amount.
    Unused features are non-refundable. No shows forfeit entire payment.
    Trips require a minimum number of participants to avoid cancellation. We reserve the right to cancel a schedule trip to fully refund affected customers although tour companies will make every effort to maintain the normal operation.
    The refund amount will be credited directly to your account. Or the refund can also be forwarded directly to your credit card with a 6% handling fee.
    NOTE: We cannot grant any refunds more than 30 days after completion of the tour.
  • Itinerary Variations
    We constantly strives to improve tour itineraries and features. If such improvements can be made, or unforeseen circumstances beyond our control make changes necessary - we reserve the right to vary itineraries and to substitute hotels. At certain peak periods duplicate departures may operate, and sometimes in reverse order in which case hotels may vary from those stated on the itinerary pages.
  • Tour Cancellation:
    We reserves the right to cancel or re-schedule any tour departure in accordance with operating requirements or circumstances beyond its control. If cancellation is made any time prior to departure* of the tour, TakeTours' only liability will be to refund to the passenger the amount it has received for the tour booking. We will try to re-book the same or similar tour.. Please note that we are not liable for any cancellation penalties incurred on any other travel arrangements including air tickets purchased separately from customers.
