Abu Dhabi is the capital of the United Arab Emirates, home to beautiful examples of Arabic architecture like Emirates Palace and the Sheikh Zayed Mosque. It is within driving distance of Dubai.
Al Ain, United Arab Emirates
This is the second largest city in the Abu Dhabi Emirate of the United Arab Emirates. The area has been inhabited for nearly 4,000 years, with the current fortress structures built in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Al Ain National Museum
This is the oldest museum in the United Arab Emirates, located next to the Eastern Fort. It is made up of two sections that detail the archaeological and ethnographic history of the surrounding area.
Al Ain Oasis
This beautiful oasis in Al Ain is the largest of the city's seven oases. It is known for the falaj, an underground irrigation system that provides local farms with water.
Al Ain Zoo
Covering 990 acres in Al Ain, this zoo features a big cat house, including the nearly extinct white lion. Its main population is made up of Arabian antelope, gazelle, and oryx.
Camel Souk
This area in the city of Al Ain is the city's historic camel marketplace, which provides visitors with fantastic photo opportunities with these often funny creatures.
Jebel Hafeet
Though primarily located in Al Ain, a city in the United Arab Emirates, this mountain straddles the border with Oman. The caves on the mountain provide shelter for local animals.
Qasr Al Muwaiji
This museum in Al Ain is a former palace that was the birthplace of Sheikh Khalifa, the current president of the United Arab Emirates. The exhibits in the museum detail the recent history of the UAE.
Sheikh Zayad Palace Museum
Named for and located in the palace of the former president of the United Arab Emirates, this museum was built in 1910 on the western side of the Al Ain Oasis. There is an art gallery within.
