In the morning, guests will be picked up from their hotels in Recife. Please see "Departure and Return" for more detailed information regarding pickup and drop-off times and locations. Today, we will travel through the Agreste Highlands to the regional market town of Caruaru, where we will see traditional earthenware sculptures and creations of rope and leather craft, which have been part of the local custom for many years. Caruaru has been recognized by UNESCO as the largest center for figure sculpture in the Americas. The Craft Market is an unforgettable highlight of the day. The clay figures we can find here, a legacy of the great folk artist Mestre Vitalino, make unique souvenirs. Leaving Caruaru, we will visit Nova Jerusalem, the world's largest open-air theater, where the Passion of the Christ is performed each year during Easter Week. We will enjoy lunch at Pousada da Paixao, a lodge inside the theater (not available during Easter week). At the end of the day, we will return to Recife, where guests will be dropped off, bringing an end to this tour.
