Day 1: Salt Lake City-Rexburg (211 miles)

You will take a shuttle through northern Utah and into Idaho, before being dropped off at your motel in Rexburg, where you will spend the night. There are stops at several towns along the way. The vehicle is generally a mini bus.
Please note that today is an unescorted part of the tour. What this means is that although you obviously have a bus driver with you at all times.

Day 2: Rexburg-West Yellowstone-Yellowstone (112 miles)

Departing Rexburg, you will travel through rural Idaho, before ascending into the Targhee National Forest. After climbing up over the Continental Divide and into Montana, you will make the short drive to West Yellowstone. On some days when you get to West Yellowstone, you will now be free to explore the town for a few hours, before taking the upper loop tour at about midday. Amongst other things, we suggest visiting the well known Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center (a must see). On other days, you may go straight out on a tour of one of the loops, as soon as you reach West Yellowstone. Whichever way you do it, you will tour the entire park over the next two days.

We will venture out of West Yellowstone take a Yellowstone Upper Loop 8 hour tour. Drive to the Norris Geyser Basin. Along the way, we will stop briefly at Gibbon Falls and Mammoth Hot Springs, where plenty of elk live. After that, we will travel through the Lamar Valley, where there is always wildlife to be seen. As we travel from Tower Junction to Tower Falls, we should keep our eyes open to try to spot some bears! Depending on how much time is available, we may visit the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and Lower Falls. We may also visit the Obsidian CliffVirginia Cascade and Undine Falls. Later, we will return to West Yellowstone.

    Norris Geyser Basin

Day 3: Yellowstone-Rexburg (72 miles)

Today we'll take another 8 hour Lower Loop Yellowstone Tour. From West Yellowstone, we will follow the Madison River to Madison Junction. Depending on the time of year, this area is often teeming with wildlife. With any luck, we will see bison, elk, trumpeter swans and other species of animals and birds. In the Spring, we might even see baby bison caves. Then, we will follow the Firehole River that runs through the thermal areas of Yellowstone. Later, we will visit the park's attractions, like the Lower Geyser Basin, the Fountain Paint Pots, the Midway Geyser Basin, Upper Geyser Basin, Old Faithful, West Thumb, Yellowstone Lake, the Fishing Bridge, the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, Hayden Valley, Lower Falls and Mud Volcano. After that, we will take the shuttle departs at about 6 p.m.this evenin. You will drive through Montana, before crossing into Idaho, and spending the night in a small town called Rexburg.

    West Thumb Geyser Basin

    The West Thumb Geyser Basin is the largest geyser basin at Yellowstone Lake, and an impressive area of geothermal activity that contains hot springs, mud pots, and geysers-- some of which are even in the lake itself.

    Fountain Paint Pot

    Fountain Paint Pot, heated by the region's underground hot springs, F.P.P is half hot spring, half mud basin. The spring releases natural shades of red and yellow because of the oxidation of iron in the soil.

    Yellowstone Lake

    Yellowstone Lake isn't just the largest single body of water in Yellowstone National Park, but the largest elevated freshwater lake in the US. The lake contains several underwater hot springs that melt its otherwise thick ice sheets in the winter.

    Fishing Bridge

    Located near the mouth of the Yellowstone River, the Fishing Bridge is a great location to spot the native Cutthroat trout. There is an RV park of the same name nearby.

Day 4: Rexburg - Salt Lake City (240 miles)

In the morning, we will depart from Rexburg to Salt Lake at various times. Please note that this is an unescorted part of the tour. We will drop off at the Salt Lake City airport, or at a central downtown location, opposite Temple Square. We can choose from several departure times from Rexburg.

  • Departure: Although the last shuttle departs Salt Lake airport (SLC) at 10:00 p.m., we suggest you arrive by 5:00 p.m., otherwise you will not get much sleep on the first night! Shuttle departure times after 10:00 a.m. are: 12 p.m. 1.30 p.m. 3 p.m. 4.30 p.m. 6 p.m. 8.30 p.m. 10.30 p.m. Travel time is about 4.5 hours.
  • Return: You can select the time you want to return to Salt Lake on the last morning. The tour both starts and ends at the Salt Lake City airport and a central downtown location.
  • Please note your flight arrival time when booking.
