We will begin our day in Barcelona, where we will board a bus bound for the mountain of Montserrat. The rocks here were formed by natural cement over many centuries due to local weather conditions. Many visitors see animal and sometimes human shapes among the rocks. We will visit the Royal Basilica of Montserrat, which contains a famous 12th century Romanesque carving of the Black Madonna. The Benedictine sanctuary of Montserrat was founded in 1025 and provides a mythical backdrop for the Virgin of Montserrat, the patron saint of Catalonia. This little monastery soon began to receive pilgrims and visitors who contributed to the spread of stories and miracles performed by the Virgin. On some days, the children's choir sings in the monastery.
