Meals aren't included in the tour price; instead, your guide arranges meal stops along the route, and these offer vegetarian options alongside Asian and familiar American choices. On routes that visit Niagara Falls, some stops also include Indian restaurants.

Travelling with parents visiting from India? Food is usually the first question, but rarely the only one — how far you walk at each stop and whether the route crosses into Canada come up just as often.

What cities are on a classic East Coast route?

The classic route links New York, Niagara Falls, Washington DC, Philadelphia and Boston. New York is the usual hub, Niagara Falls the natural wonder to the north, DC the capital to the south, Philadelphia the founding city in between, and Boston the historic New England stop. Corning and Watkins Glen appear on several Niagara routes as scheduled stops on the long drive north, and the longest routes add the Thousand Islands or a crossing into Canada.

How do East Coast multi-city tours work?

One coach and guide take you through several cities on a set route, with hotels booked along the way. You unpack and repack as the tour moves between cities, rather than basing in one place. Transport, hotels and a guide are included; meals and optional activities are usually separate. Most tours return to the city they started from, but a few end elsewhere — Boston drop-off is offered on some New York departures — so check before booking flights.

How much time do you get in each city?

Less than a city break allows. On a multi-city route each stop gets a half day to a full day, and the coach moves on the same evening or the next morning. Philadelphia is often a half-day stop between New York and Washington DC rather than an overnight. The tour page lists the stops day by day, and on routes where activities are optional you can spend a stop your own way.

When is the best time for an East Coast tour?

Spring and fall are the most comfortable, with mild weather across the region. Fall is especially popular for New England foliage, at its best in October. Summer is warm and busy, good for Niagara Falls and outdoor stops. Winter is quiet and cold with fewer crowds, though the Niagara boat cruises do not run. The falls are lit in color after dark year-round, and the illumination starts earlier in winter.

Is Niagara Falls included on East Coast tours?

Yes, Niagara Falls is on most East Coast routes — it is one of the main reasons travelers take the tour. From New York it is a long drive north, so it almost always falls on a multi-day trip rather than a day tour. Some routes cross to the Canadian side for the panoramic view, and some add Cave of the Winds.

Traveling the East Coast with parents or grandparents

East Coast tours suit multigenerational groups: the coach handles the long distances between cities, and hotels are booked along the way so there is no logistics to manage. The main sights involve some walking, but a slower-paced or longer itinerary leaves more rest time. On tours where activities are optional, older travelers can skip a stop without leaving the group.

  • How do you book an East Coast tour?

    Choose a departure city, pick a date, and book online. Your confirmation gives the pickup point and time — these are set by the route rather than chosen at checkout. Prices are per person and change by season.

  • Which city should you start an East Coast tour from?

    New York is the most common starting point, with the widest choice of routes and dates. Boston, Washington DC, Philadelphia and Toronto also work as starting points. Most routes cover the same core cities whichever one you begin in.

  • Are tours available in languages other than English?

    Almost all departures are guided in English, and some also run in Mandarin or another language. Written itineraries are provided in English. The tour page states the guiding language for each departure, so check it before booking.

  • Do East Coast tours cross into Canada?

    Some longer routes cross at Niagara Falls to the Canadian side or continue to Toronto. These need a valid passport and, depending on nationality, a visa or travel authorization. Tours that stay within the US do not require a passport. The tour page states whether a route crosses.

I took a 3 day trip to Newyork to see Niagara falls which was a 2 day tour and 1 day tour to Newyork City. I planned with the itinerary given in this trip but the trip had a different itinerary. Though they covered everything mentioned here it would have been really helpful if it was communicated way before. The accommodation provided was great. I am vegetarian and as a family we really struggled with the food though the tour mentioned there will be vegetarian food available where they stop. The tour bus was not upto the mark as most of the time the Air conditioning didn't work and there were a lot of confusions with clubbing people with multiple day tours. Overall its worth your buck but can be improved because with kids it is a bit chaotic.

Before the tour, I received a text messages confirming the guests and instruction where to meet and get picked up. Which is needed for the first time customer joining the group tour. Our tour guide Jason is very exceptional. He is knowledgeable, very patients and took care of the whole group during the tour. The driver of the bus forgot his name is also helpful to the group. I travelled along with my family for the 2N3D trip. Judy Zhang was our tour guide. She managed the tour quite well with good time management, ensuring the tickets for each sightseeing attraction was kept ready to save time & enough time was provided to the group at each attraction. We had short breaks after every 2.5 - 3 hours of travel. The hotel room accomodation were of good quality closer to the super markets/food courts. We were able to cover multiple places within 3 days and we thoroughly enjoyed the tour. I would reccommend this tour to my friends. One area of improvement - to improve the leg space between the seats on the bus, considering the long travel distance between the cities.

Six days covered the major cities in the eastern US and Canada—a packed but well-organized route. My favorite part was the Niagara Falls night tour; the illuminated water was spectacular. It was a mandatory add-on at $45 per adult, but I felt it was worth it.

It was meticulously planned, we visited all the places but the we need to make sure we are on time else the driver and guide gets upset. They club with many others. We had a 5 day package, few had 3 and others 4, so it was like everyday you meet someone new and based on people the vehicle also gets changed. Hotels were all decent, they stopped at plaza's where there are multiple options to eat. Amount was as shown, nothing extra. I would recommend but request to make sure to keep up the time, and would be great if the vehicles are more better.

The bus tour took us past the holiday lights and movie locations around New York, linking up spots like Rockefeller Center and Central Park. I especially liked the Central Park segment since it was featured in Serendipity. A guide was on board, and taxes were covered in the tour price, which made things easy.
