Jasper National Park tours and vacation packages cover the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies — about 4,200 square miles of Alberta. Trips run the Icefields Parkway to the Columbia Icefield and Athabasca Glacier, and most also take in Banff and Yoho. Maligne Lake, Maligne Canyon and Sunwapta Falls sit further north, on routes that stay overnight — the day trips turn back at the icefield. Most depart from Calgary or Banff town, with the longer packages from Vancouver and Seattle. Hotels, transport and a guide are included on multi-day trips.
Calgary is the airport hub, Banff town the closest start, and Vancouver the long way round. Pick a departure city to see the routes that leave from it, prices and how many days you'll need.
| Trip | Days | You'll see | From | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Day trips | 1 Day | Bow Lake, Peyto Lake and the Columbia Icefield, back the same evening — these turn around at the icefield, short of Jasper town | $101 | The icefield in a day |
| Short trips | 2-4 Days | Two to four days up the Icefields Parkway, covering Banff and Yoho on the way, with nights in Banff or Jasper town on most routes | $319 | A first visit |
| Vacation packages | 5-10 Days | Five days and up, adding Glacier National Park, Kamloops and the Okanagan, ending in Calgary or Vancouver | $548 | The whole Rockies |
Most tours cover both parks. Jasper is the larger of the two and lies further north, at the far end of the Icefields Parkway from Lake Louise. Banff town is the more convenient base, which is why short trips stay there and turn around at the Columbia Icefield rather than pushing on. Reaching Jasper town itself, and Maligne Lake beyond it, takes a longer itinerary.
Two to four days is the common choice. A single day from Calgary or Banff reaches the Columbia Icefield and returns the same evening, but does not reach Jasper town. Two to four day routes add nights in Banff or Jasper town and usually take in Yoho as well. Five to ten day packages from Vancouver or Seattle add Glacier National Park, Kamloops and the Okanagan.
Jasper is in Alberta, Canada, so travelers arriving from the United States need a valid passport, and entry requirements differ by nationality and by US immigration status — green card and visa holders should confirm their own before booking. National park admission is included on most tours, and the tour page confirms it. Bring layers: it stays cold at the icefield even in midsummer, and mountain weather shifts through the day.
May to early October is the main season. The Columbia Icefield closes before May and after the second Saturday of October, and tours running outside those dates substitute Lake Minnewanka and the Banff hot springs. Maligne Lake boat cruises to Spirit Island run spring to autumn. Sunwapta Falls is at its strongest from late May through mid-July, when the glacial melt peaks.
Every Jasper route is listed at easy or relaxed pace, and most viewpoints along the Icefields Parkway are short walks from the coach. The Ice Explorer onto the Athabasca Glacier is optional on most tours, so it can be skipped without leaving the group behind. Maligne Canyon involves stairs and footbridges. Airport pickup is available on many Calgary departures, which shortens the first day.
Meal stops are usually at cafeterias and food courts rather than set restaurants, so travelers order their own and vegetarian options are available at every stop. Stricter requirements such as Jain or halal depend on what each stop carries, so raise them before departure rather than on the day. Along the Icefields Parkway the main stops are Saskatchewan River Crossing and the Icefield Centre. Day trips do not include meals; some multi-day routes include breakfast.
Choose a departure city, pick a date, and book online. Your confirmation gives the pickup point and time — these are set by the route rather than chosen at checkout. Most routes leave from Calgary or Banff town; longer packages leave from Vancouver or Seattle. Prices are per person and change by season.
Tours run year-round, but the route changes. The Columbia Icefield closes before May and after the second Saturday of October; departures outside those dates visit Lake Minnewanka and the Banff hot springs instead. The Ice Explorer onto the Athabasca Glacier does not operate out of season, and Maligne Lake boat cruises run spring to autumn only.
Most Canadian Rockies routes are guided in English and Mandarin Chinese. A smaller number run in English only, and some departures also list Japanese or Spanish. The languages for each departure are shown on the tour page.
The Ice Explorer onto the Athabasca Glacier and the Glacier Skywalk are optional on most tours and paid separately. Some routes bundle them into an activity package you select when booking; on others the guide arranges them during the trip. The tour page states which applies.
