Travel in Mexico

Dinner was at the revolving restaurant on the 45th floor, and I really enjoyed seeing the city lights from up there. The three-course meal and round-trip transport were included, though drinks and gratuities were extra.

The route from Mexico City down to Acapulco was scenic, especially along the coast. On day six, though, the bus ride back to Mexico City cost an extra $77 per person, which I hadn't fully realized beforehand. Otherwise, the itinerary was well organized and daily breakfast was a nice convenience.

The Mexican Folklore Ballet was a wonderful show—two hours of dances and traditional costumes from different regions of the country. Hotel pickup and round-trip transport were included, which made things easy. Meals weren't covered though, so I had dinner before the show.

We were picked up at 10am and started at San Diego Fort, which houses the Acapulco Historical Museum. I had time to stroll the grounds and grab a drink before heading to Las Brisas for the Chapel of Peace and bay views. The Dolores Olmedo House was also on the route, and the whole flow felt well organized.

I went to the wrestling show at night and the atmosphere was electric, with the técnicos and rudos battling it out. The ticket and hotel pickup were included, and we even got a wrestler mask as a gift, which I thought was a nice touch.

We left the hotel at 9 PM and Plaza Garibaldi was already lively. The live mariachi music created a great atmosphere, and since one drink was included, I found the whole evening quite enjoyable.

The bilingual guides handled the training and gear really well, so even as a first-timer I felt at ease. The park entrance fee of $15 was extra on top of the tour price, but I knew that beforehand, so it wasn't a surprise.

The one-day tour was quite varied, covering the city, Marina Vallarta, a silver workshop, and a tequila distillery. Lunch wasn't included, but the included mango margarita and traditional Mexican ice pop were a nice touch.

Dinner at Bellini on the 45th floor was special with the revolving view over the city. Afterward we went to Plaza Garibaldi for live mariachi music, a drink, and a folkloric show. It made for a full, enjoyable evening.

The 9-day route linked Mexico City with colonial towns like Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende, with something new every day. I especially enjoyed the House of the Eleven Patios in Patzcuaro and the murals in the Gertrudis Bocanegra Library.
