    Elko - Casper (639 miles)

This morning, we’ll visit the Great Salt Lake. Moving through Emigration Canyon, we’ll follow the original trail used by Mormon Settlers led by Brigham Young to colonize the Salt Lake area of Utah. Branching off into Wyoming, we’ll travel along the original Oregon Trail. The history written on Independence Rock carries many stories of the travelers that once reached it, stopping to carve their names in a sort of memorial upon the granite. And then there is Devil’s Gate, the dark and narrow gorge that marked points on both the Mormon and Oregon Trails; its mere presence seems symbolic of the dangers that travelers faced. We’ll it make to Casper by nightfall to bed down for the evening.

    Salt Lake City, UT

    • The largest saltwater lake in the Western Hemisphere is the famous Great Salt Lake in northern Utah. People visit the lake's namesake, Salt Lake City, every year to see the natural wonder and tour its shores.

Casper - Mount Rushmore - Gillette (356 miles)

We’ll head to the Mount Rushmore National Memorial. Next, we’ll make our way roughly 130 miles to visit the Devil’s Tower. After admiring this natural wonder (and the climbers brave enough to scale its surface) we’ll head to our hotel in Gillette for the night.

    Mount Rushmore National Memorial

Mt Rushmore National Memorial is one of the most iconic National Memorials in the world. Four of the nation's most cherished Presidents carved into the face of the now famous mountainside.

Gillette - Yellowstone National Park (13 miles)

    Yellowstone

Yellowstone is part of the most seismically active region of the Rocky Mountains and lies on a volcanic 'hot spot'. It is well known for its hot springs and mud pots. It contains 200-250 active geysers and some 10,000 thermal features.

Salt Lake City - Reno (518 miles)

This morning we’ll explore the Utah State Capitol Building and the center of Salt Lake City, Temple Square. We’ll leave Salt Lake City to arrive in Reno, Nevada by the afternoon.

    Salt Lake City, UT

    • The home of all of the governmental processes for the state of Utah, the Utah State Capitol in Salt Lake City. The building is done in the ornate neoclassical revival style, purposefully reminiscent of the nation capitol in DC.
