I just finished my tour. It's a awesome experience, I wish the tour could last longer. I had so much fun, and both of my tour guides are great. They always made sure everyone is back on the bus and fully guided us. If anyone has any issue, they will always tried their best to help everyone out. The best part is their knowledge, I learned so much history in the last few days
As a solo traveler from Australia, I looked into this tour purely because I wanted to take the hassle out of traveling from city to city, organizing accommodation and activities because I only wanted to spend a little bit of time in Las Vegas and San Francisco. I'm 24, but I also didn't want to do something like a Tiki Tour because that's not really my scene.
Anyway, my ride at the airport was waiting when I arrived and took me to my hotel - the Quality Walnut Inn. The room was big and there was free breakfast, but the hotel itself wasn't amazing. The pillows were just cushions and the bed was uncomfortable. It wasn't in a great location to actually do anything so the days I was there I spent resting in the hotel room (so consider requesting the deluxe hotel if that doesn't interest you).
At 7:50AM the next day, the bus arrived to take us to Las Vegas. Johnson was our guide. Out of about 45 people, about 4 of us weren't Asian (another thing to keep in mind if you're interested in socializing, because not many people spoke English). Also note that the guides are also Asian and say everything in English and then in Chinese - they also have very strong Chinese accents, so if English isn't your first language you might have some communication issues. Two hours into the drive (and less than 24 hours in the country) we stopped at a rest-stop, where I got some money out to pay for the tour options and then had my wallet stolen. I started to panic and informed the guide and we went looking and eventually it turned up in the toilet with my card still in tact, but all my was cash stolen (some hundreds of dollars). Johnson told me not to worry about it and I could pay him in the morning. He gave me $20 to buy lunch with and told me not to worry. We arrived at the hotel Excalibur about 3/3:30PM (a very nice hotel). I opted to do the night tour and Jubilee - we visited The Venetian, Caesar's Palace and Fremont (for the light show) for about 10-15 minutes each, then we were dropped off for Jubilee (the rest were taken on a dinner break), and after Jubilee we were given a muffin for dinner and taken back to the hotel. I would recommend the tour if you just want to glimpse at a few of the sights, but if you really want to take it all in I suggest going solo.
We were up at 4:30AM or so the next day for the Grand Canyon. I opted for the West Rim tour as it was either 10 hours total driving and 40 minutes on the South Rim or 4 hours total driving and 4 hours on the West Rim. We got back early in the afternoon and it was 'free time' for the rest of the day.
We were up early the next morning to come back to Los Angeles. We stopped at the Ethel M Chocolate Factory, though it hadn't opened when we got there, so doing the tour we didn't actually get to see any chocolate being made. I also stumbled into a cactus in the garden and was pulling little spikes out of my elbow hours later.. I wasn't having much luck on the trip. We then stopped at the Tanger Outlets for 2 hours, which seemed to take ages because I dislike shopping and it seemed like too much time. And then we were dropped off back at our hotels.
7:00AM the next day, we were picked up for San Francisco. We stopped at a few sights around Monterey Bay and then stopped there for lunch, before heading to the hotel. What I didn't realize was that it was the Sheraton Pleasanton hotel - about a 45 minute BART ride away from San Francisco. So if you want to do your own activities in San Francisco, keep that in mind.
I bought a ticket for Alcatraz months prior, so I spent the day on my own. As it was a Sunday, the BART didn't start until 8:00AM, which was something I hadn't considered when purchasing my Alcatraz ticket and I had to catch the first train in and rush to get there (though I got there at 9:00AM for a 9:30AM departure).
A 5:30AM call the next morning and we stopped at two of the sights at Yosemite Park before driving back to LA. It was nice to drive through Yosemite, but it felt like a bit of a waste not being able to spend time enjoying it.
Overall, I got what I wanted out of the tour, which as I said was just to have travel and accommodation organized for me. If you want a more in-depth tour or something more social or more oriented for young adults, I suggest looking elsewhere but if you just want a quick stop in these cities to have a look at the main attractions then it's a good choice, especially for the price. Although Johnson was a bit difficult to understand at times, he was very friendly and enthusiastic and deserves props for handling the situation on the first day.
It was really an awesome trip. I took this trip with my wife and I am really sure I made the right choice. Covering so many destination by driving on my own would have tough and not so pleasurable. Guides Ming and Lynn's knowledge and behavior was excellent. I would definitely recommend this trip to others.
I booked this trip for my parents who have never been to the west coast. Initially, they were afraid of going because they could not speak the language well. It turns out the tour guides can speak their alternate language and they were very friendly. They liked the 4 star hotel, which was big and comfortable. They were satisfied with the restaurants that the tour guides brought them to. They really enjoyed the trip and they are happy that I booked this great trip for them.
We are back in NZ. Thank you for all your help. We had Angela as our tour guide when we went to Las Vegas, she was very helpful and has a lot of knowladege about the place we've visited. Her english is very good and clear compare to the one we had for the SF tour (Johnson). Hotel is good, food is great. The airport shuttle driver was 2 hours late when they picked us up from LAX. We were a bit worried because we almost thought it was a bogus tour. I hope it will never happen to others, otherwise the tour is highly recommended and we definetely will use this tour again in the near future. Keep up a good work.
The trip exceeded my expectations! Thanks, TakeTours. Thanks to our tour guides Ms. Ming and Eric for taking care of us so well. Thanks to our drivers for keeping everything on time!
The hotel rooms were awesome - each one of them. Enjoyed the trip, overall. :)
The tour is very good and offers best value for money. Although hectic, the hotel accommodation was good. However the tour guides were more talking in Chinese than English and used to take us to Chinese buffet restaurants. I guess if this is reduced a bit, then the tour would have been more enjoyable.
We had a great trip. We are very lucky had the same tour guild Allen for the whole time. Allen, bus driver Hugo & ? was great. Well organised tour. We have a great experience. Thank you and highly recommend it.
I completely enjoyed my tour! The guide was really good, sure it combines two tours, and if u wanna c LA u should book hotel for one more night, the best place for me was San Francisco, in general tour is worth the money u pay, hotels amazing, i didnt expect those to be so nice, especially Sheraton, the only minus is that those r situated not exactly at LA or SF, but rooms r so good. U should definitely book this tour if u wanna c much stuff in a limited time! Thank u, bravo travel for such experience!
The tour was great, considering the price. Well organised, good hotels, great tour guides and bus drivers. It was a bit of a shock, being only 4 Europeans on a whole bus (the rest were all asian/chinese people). But that was never a problem. Of course it combined two tours, would have made more sense going from Las Vegas to San Francisco directly, not coming back to L.A. first, but i guess that's just a part of how they organize it.
Everything went fine, everything was taken care of, and would go again on that tour and would recommend it to anybody.
The tour was good overall, except the buses that were not 'luxury' buses as advertised. Also, it combines two trips and would have been better to go straight to SF from LVG. The last guide Paula was very nice and helpful. One major complaint is the SF optional trip: they would leave you in the town for 3 and half hours from 3.30pm unless you pay 25$ extra for some more sightseeing. How come? Isnt it supposed to give you a full day sightseeing? And the LA Hotel is really basic and in a very isolated location - it took us two hours, two buses and a taxi (and a lot of money) to come back to the hotel from a visit to downtown. Overall, I think it is good but I wouldnt do it again.
While we all enjoyed the overall itinerary of the tour especially on our trip to SF, it was ruined by the first tour guide. He was unprofessional and did not explain to participants along the trip to LV.
I sent my parents-in-law on this tour. They are overwhelmed by the behavior of Tour Guide. Tour was excellent. Only problem they faced is with the hotel provided in Las Vegas. It was not up to their standards. I would surely recommend this tour. Only suggestion would be if tour goes directly from LV to SFO instead of combining 2 different tours in this 7 Day package.
Good package, but if u have a stay in LA< dont take this one, as this just combines two 3 day package n makes a 7 day one, instead take them separately n save more money. The tour guide was very very good, awesome gentleman n spoke wonderful English.
I thought that the GOTOBUS service was quite fun. Aside from riding in the bus for longer than you would like to, this trip was wonderful. I think the service was satisfactory. There were an ample amount of stops/attractions/restrooms /food breaks, and the tour guide was fun and entertaining. I would recommend this agency to anyone who doesn't mind a little cultural immersion, Bi-lingual tour guides, and long bus rides. It was a cool trip. My companion and I saw lots of beautiful attractions, lucked out with great weather, and all and all had a pretty good time. My only complaint would be that I wish we had more time at each attraction, but that's what you have to expect with tours that take you on a whirlwind trip in just a few days. So aside from that I'd say that this agency earns my seal of approval. Some customers may be more picky than others, so their patience can wear thin when sitting for too long on a bus or not getting to eat "healthy" food choices for breakfast/lunch/and dinner... But keep in mind the (time constraints and meal choices) are all for the matter of "convenience" so it's not that the agency isn't "trying/caring" about the well being and happiness of the customer. I am pleased with my gotobus experience, I'd give it a 7.8 out of 10. Take care`
