Chenonceaux, France

The population of permanent residents hovers about 400, as of 2012, but there is a large influx of tourists during the summer months, because the village adjoins the former royal Chateau de Chenonceau, one of the most popular tourist destinations in France.

Chateau de Chenonceau

The Chateau de Chenonceau dates back literally a millennia. The first mention of it in writing occurs in the eleventh century A.D. It is immediately recognizable due to the sweeping arches that make up the base of the building.

Chambord, France

Chambord is a town in Loir-et-Cher in France. It is famous for the royal Chateau de Chambord.

Chateau de Chambord

is one of the most recognizable chateaux in the world because of its very distinctive French Renaissance architecture which blends traditional French medieval forms with classical Renaissance structures. The building, which was never completed, was constructed by King Francis I of France.
