Day 1: Uyuni - Colchani - Uyuni Salt Flats (Incahuasi Island) - Pia Pia Island - Ajencha (7079 km)

We'll pick you up from the bus station around 07:00am and you'll have some leisure time to have breakfast. Then, your adventure begins at 10:30am! We'll first visit the Train cemetery to discover very old locomotives from the Carbon era. Next is the town of Colchani, where we will see the manual processing of salt, handicrafts and the salt museum. Then, we'll make for the Uyuni Salt Flats (12,000 km2) and will see the “Montones de sal” and how locals extract the salt. Next, we'll visit Playa Blanca hotel and the Incahuasi Island with its giant cacti that is located in the middle of the salt flats. It's the perfect spot to have lunch, enjoying an amazing view. Then, we will continue our trip to the town of San Juan or Atulcha (3,700 masl). Tonight will be spent at a small salt hostel.

    Uyuni is a city in the southwest of Bolivia. It primarily serves as a gateway for tourists visiting the world's largest salt flats - the Salar de Uyuni. he city also acts as a gateway for commerce and traffic crossing into and out of Bolivia from and to Chile.

    Incahuasi Island

    Isla Incahuasi is a hilly and rocky outcrop of land and former island in Bolivia situated in the middle of Salar de Uyuni, the world's largest salt flat, at an elevation of 3,656 meters.

Day 2: Chiguana Desert - Lagoons - Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve - Red Lagoon Sol de Manana Geyser (210 km)

Today we will depart at 08:30am. We'll visit Salar de Chiguana, viewpoint of the Ollague Volcano (active), and then visit the Andean lagoons of Canapa, Chiarcota, and Hedionda, located at an average altitude of 4,300masl. Here, you can see flamingos, vicunas and other Andean fauna. We will then pass through the Siloli desert and visit the Stone Tree, formed due to erosion. In the afternoon, we will visit Laguna Colorada (4,300masl) where we can see more wild animals. We will continue to Huayllajara, where our small hostel is located at an average altitude of 4,300masl. Please consider that the temperature is very low at night (even -20 °C), so it is recommended to bring a sleeping bag.

    Ollague Volcano is a massive andesite stratovolcano. It started developing more than one million years ag, and is considered potential active by now.

    You can see the most bizarre rock formations in the desert of exotic plants. The desert is not far from the Chilean border. It is rugged and worth a visit to the rock formations and volcanoes.

Day 3: Sol de Manana Geyser - Dali Desert - Uyuni - La Paz (901 km)

Today we will depart at 05:00am to visit the active geysers of Sol de Manana, which are located at an altitude of 4,900masl. Marvel at the fumaroles or boiling lava at a temperature of 90° C. Then, we will continue to the thermal waters of Polques, where we can take a hot bath. We will pass through the Dali desert until we reach the spectacular Laguna Verde and Laguna Blanca, located at the foot of the Licancabur volcano. After this, we will return to Uyuni town (approx. 7 hours) without many stops except at noon for lunch, and a visit to the rock valley in Villamar. Arrival around 17:00hrs. Time at leisure to eat and visit the town. Transfer to the bus station to take the overnight bus back to La Paz (departure time: 20:00hrs.). During your overnight trip you will enjoy a light dinner on the bus.

Day 4: La Paz

Arrive in La Paz and make your own way to the hostel of your choice from the La Paz bus station. Your once-in-a-lifetime adventure comes to an end.
  • Departure: Meeting at The Guardian Coffee Shop (Sucre street corner with Ferroviaria Avenue) at 07:00 AM. Please confirm your departure information with us at least 5 days prior to departure.
  • Accommodation Pickup in San Pedro de Atacama only in downtown. Pickup is not possible at Rural, Vilacoyo, La Florida, Soncheck, Corvatch, La Rose de Atacama.

If such improvements can be made, or unforeseen circumstances beyond our control make changes necessary - we reserve the right to vary itineraries and to substitute hotels. At certain peak periods duplicate departures may operate, and sometimes in reverse order in which case hotels may vary from those stated on the itinerary pages.
  • Tour Cancellation: We reserves the right to cancel or re-schedule any tour departure in accordance with operating requirements or circumstances beyond its control. If cancellation is made any time prior to departure of the tour, Taketours' only liability will be to refund to the passenger the amount it has received for the tour booking. We will try to re-book the same or similar tour. Please note that we are not liable for any cancellation penalties incurred on any other travel arrangements including air tickets purchased separately from customers.
