Our journey begins at JR Kyoto Station. The first destination is Tenryuji. It is the most significant temple in the Arashiyamaarea of western Kyoto. It is currently registered as a World Heritage Site. Tenryuji is the head temple of the Rinzaisect.
After spending some time at the temple, we will head through the bamboo grove to Togetsukyo Bridge. Togetsukyo Bridge has been a landmark in the Arashiyama area for over 400 years. A wooden bridge spanning the Katsuragawa River in front of Arashiyama offers a wonderful view.
It is your lunch time! There are many restaurants and food stalls along the river. You can either sit in a restaurant or try different types of street food. If you finish lunch before the meeting time, you can buy souvenirs at the lively shopping street.
Once you have had your fill of delicious food, our afternoon begins with a traditional Japanese art experience - koboshi. They are traditional Japanese dolls dating back to the 14th century. They are generally considered good luck charms that symbolize resilience.
Our next destination after Koboshi making is Ryoanji Temple. It is the most famous rock garden location in Japan. It was originally a villa for aristocrats during the Heian period, but was renovated as a Zen temple in 1450. You can sit for a while in front of the rock garden and calm your mind. After spending some quiet time, we will head to our final destination, Kinkakuji Temple. It is a complex consisting of gardens and buildings centred around the central Golden Pavilion, and is said to be reminiscent of an earthly paradise.
We will return to JR Kyoto Station together to say goodbye. However, if you would like to spend the rest of your day in the city centre, you are more than welcome. We will do our best to help you have a wonderful time in Kyoto.
Our journey begins at 09:00 at JR Kyoto Station. The first destination is Nanzenji, a Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto, which offers a tranquil escape with its serene gardens and historic charm. Established in the 13th century, it stands as a testament to Japanese cultural and spiritual heritage. The main hall and surrounding grounds create a peaceful atmosphere, inviting visitors to experience the beauty and tranquillity of Zen Buddhism in the heart of Kyoto.
Next on our Kyoto adventure is Ginkakuji, the Silver Pavilion. Tucked at the base of Higashiyama, this Zen temple captivates with its minimalist design and serene surroundings. While lacking the silver coating it was intended to have, Ginkakuji's charm lies in its simplicity and perfectly crafted sand garden. A visit promises breathtaking views of Kyoto and a tranquil experience that complements our earlier stop at Nanzenji.
Lunch on a lively shopping street is a delightful fusion of flavors and atmosphere. Exploring local stalls or cosy eateries, you will discover the essence of the area through its culinary offerings, making for a satisfying and culturally immersive dining experience.
After a satisfying lunch, our adventure in Kyoto takes a creative turn with a bamboo art experience. Set against the backdrop of the city's rich history, we will immerse ourselves in the ancient craft of bamboo weaving. Our hands-on activity involves crafting a basket together, tapping into the traditional skills passed down through generations. Kyoto's deep connection with bamboo unfolds as we learn about its historical significance, from traditional construction to tea ceremonies. This engaging experience not only allows us to create something beautiful but also deepens our appreciation for the timeless artistry and cultural heritage of Kyoto.
As our bamboo art joint venture concludes, we will gracefully head back to the train station, wrapping up our memorable day in Kyoto. The echoes of cultural exploration and creative engagement will linger as we bid farewell to this enchanting city. We will return to JR Kyoto Station together to say goodbye. However, if you would like to spend the rest of your day in the city centre, you are more than welcome. We will do our best to help you have a wonderful time in Kyoto.

The custom of donating torii gates has spread since the Edo period as a way to make wishes come true, or to express gratitude for having a wish come true. To this day, successive torii gates have been built by donors to show their gratitude. Approximately 800 torii gates line the approach.

After some quiet time, we are ready to return to the crowded centre. As you pass through the Gion area, you will see all the old buildings of Kyoto's old entertainment district, allowing you to imagine what it was like in its heyday. We walk slowly through this area until we reach our next destination, Kodaiji Temple. It was built in 1606 by Hideyoshi's wife Nene in memory of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, one of the great figures in Japanese history.
It is almost time to say goodbye. Our final destination is Kiyomizu temple, its name comes from the waterfall within the complex that cascades down from a nearby hill. Shimizu means clear or pure water. This temple was founded in 778 in the late Nara period by Enchin Shonin, a monk from Nara. Many of the current temple buildings were built in 1633 by order of Tokugawa Iemitsu.
