In the morning, guests will be picked up from their hotels in Reykjavik. Over the course of our day, we will visit some of the most significant attractions in the Icelandic capital and its surrounding suburbs, including Bessastadir, Hafnarfjordur, the old fishing harbor, and the fish market. After a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, we will go to Hofdi House, the Reykjavik University, the Old Town Center, and Althing, the Icelandic parliament building. Then, we will go to the sports and recreation area of Laugardalur. Afterwards, the tour will come to an end. Please see "Departure and Return" for more detailed information regarding pickup and drop-off times and locations.

    Reykjavik is the capital of Iceland and was founded in 1786. Its important function as a seaport has led to its continual development over the past two-plus centuries. It has been called "the nightlife capital of the north."

    Bessastadir

    Bessastadir is the official resident of the President of Iceland. Located in the town of Alftanes, visitors can also see the accompanying church, one of the oldest structures in Iceland dating back to 1796.

    Hafnarfjordur

    The third largest city in Iceland, the port of Hafnarfjordur is only 6 miles south of the capital, Reykjavik. The town holds many annual festivals, such as the Viking Festival Many bands trace their roots to the town.

    Hofdi House

    This house in the northern part of Reykjavik has been the residence of many diplomats and other people of note. In 1986, it was the site of the Reykjavik Summit between the USA and the USSR.

    Reykjavik University

    Home to a student body of over 3,500 people, Reykjavik University is the largest private research institution in Iceland. It is fully bilingual in English and Icelandic, and has schools for Law, Computer Science, Business, and Science & Engineering.

    Old Town Center

    The Old Town Center of Reykjavik is decorated with brightly colored historical buildings which makes this neighborhood a quaint and beautiful destination for tourists. Visit the Icelandic Parliament and Town Hall, Domkirkjan (Icelandic cathedral), museums, universities, theatre, restaurants, shops and more.

    Thingvellir National Park is an UNESCO World Heritage Site and the most popular tourist destination in Iceland. Thingvellir has unusual tectonic and volcanic geological features and visitors can enjoy a wide array of activities including camping, hiking, and scuba diving.

    Althing

    Althing is the Icelandic parliament, as well as the name of the building in which the governmental body meets. It was founded in 930, making it the oldest parliamentary institution in the world.

    Laugardalur

    The name of this district of Iceland's capital means "laundry valley" because a great deal of washing was done in its stream. It lies just east of the city center, and is home to the city's main stadium.
