In the morning, guests will be picked up from their hotels in Rio de Janeiro. Please see "Departure and Return" for more detailed information regarding pickup and drop-off times and locations. Today, we will have the opportunity to explore the nearby city of Petropolis. Located roughly 60km from Rio, it has been called the Imperial City since the reign of Emperor Pedro II. Settled by German farmers in the 19th century, the city is home to exquisite buildings and charming streets. The tour will start with a visit to the Imperial Museum, which was once the summer residence of Emperor Pedro II. The building now houses furniture and jewelry, like the royal crown used by the Emperor. We will continue to the Cathedral of St. Peter of Alcantara, which houses the remains of Pedro II, his wife, and Princess Isabel. Nearby, we will also see the Crystal Palace, which was built in France and mounted in Brazil, where Princess Isabel hosted various exhibitions and lush parties. After a full day exploring Petropolis, we will return to Rio de Janeiro, and guests will be dropped off at their hotels to bring an end to this tour.
