Guests will be picked up in the early evening from their hotels in Salvador. We will embark on a night of magic, mystery, and fun, beginning with an authentic folklore show that displays the most thrilling elements of Afro-Brazilian culture. At this show, we will learn about Candomble, a local religion developed in the 19th century by slaves who mixed their African spiritual beliefs with many Roman Catholic ideas. Candomble incorporates many traditional, local dances in its rituals, and we will see examples of Maculele, Samba de Roda, and Danca do Coboclo. Part of this show involves capoeira, a form of martial arts that developed in the Brazilian slave communities that mixes dance, music, and acrobatics. Part of this show includes the Puxada de Rede, a folkloric theatrical play that tells the story of a fisherman. Over the course of the evening, we will also enjoy a traditional dinner. After this eventful night, guests will be returned to their hotels to end this tour. Please see "Departure and Return" for more detailed information regarding pickup and drop-off times and locations.
