Highlights

Breathe in the fresh air of Iceland as you tour the scenic bay of Reykjavik, uncover volcanoes on the way to Vik and explore the geothermal hubbub of Lake Mývatn—near Akureyri. From the thunder of the two-tiered Gullfoss Waterfall and the geothermal floating pools of Egilsstaðir to the black lava fields of Búðir and the sea cliffs of Arnastapi, experience every imaginable landscape on this one week guided tour. Take an Insight Choice in Reykjavik between either a visit to the Perlan Museum with the Wonders of Iceland's one-of-a-kind exhibition to experience Iceland’s natural beauty or experience the magic of Iceland on an exhilarating flight-ride at FlyOver to see incredible scenery from sweeping glaciers to stunning fjords. In Hellisheidi, visit Iceland’s flagship geothermal heat and power station, and learn how this scientific wonder helped the country generate 70% of its power from renewable energy sources.
  • Hellisheidavirkjun: Visit Iceland's newest geothermal heat and electric power station, the second largest of its kind in the world. Hear about how this plant has helped Iceland achieve 70% of the country's energy consumption through renewable energy sources. Your visit directly supports United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy.
  • Fridheimar: Explore a local farm and sample their sweet-tasting, homegrown tomatoes. Meet the family to learn about Icelandic horticulture and growing the tastiest tomatoes, all the while respecting the surrounding nature.
  • Gullfoss Falls: See Gullfoss, where the glacial-fed Hvítá River drops in two stages into a rugged canyon, sending spray into the air as the water cuts through layers of rock. The falls sit at the heart of the Golden Circle and show the force of Iceland’s meltwater rivers, especially when seasonal flow increases.
  • Skogafoss: Visit Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, two south coast waterfalls shaped by rivers dropping from Iceland’s interior. Each fall offers a different profile, with water plunging over former sea cliffs and cutting into the rock below, illustrating how glacial meltwater and changing coastlines have formed this section of the island.
  • Vik: Enjoy an orientation of Vik, Iceland's seafront village home to black pebble beaches and offshore rock formations.
  • Skaftafell: Move through the Skaftafell area of Vatnajökull National Park, where outlet glaciers, lava fields and plains meet at the edge of Europe’s largest ice cap. The landscape shows how volcanic activity and ice have worked together over time, carving valleys, feeding rivers and leaving moraines that mark the glacier’s earlier extent.
  • Lake Jokulsarlon: Spend time at Jökulsárlón, a glacier lagoon where ice breaks from Breiðamerkurjökull and drifts slowly towards the sea. The lagoon doubled as an Arctic setting in the James Bond film Die Another Day, chosen for its floating icebergs and stark contrasts.
  • Hofn: Your Travel Director takes you on a short orientation through this seaside village.
  • Egilsstadir: Visit this lakeside town, the largest on Iceland's East Coast.
  • Lake Urrioavatn: Experience the age-old Icelandic tradition of bathing in a natural geothermal pool. Indulge your muscles and mind in the country's only floating infinity pools. Or try the onshore hotel pools, sauna and the cold-water spray tunnel.
  • Lake Myvatn: Spend time around Lake Mývatn, an area known for volcanic landforms and birdlife. You may explore the lava formations at Dimmuborgir, walk among pseudocraters or visit the sulfur fields and steaming vents at Námaskarð, gaining a sense of how recent volcanic activity has shaped this northern landscape.
  • Akureyri: Join your Travel Director for an orientation of Akureyri, often referred to as the capital of north Iceland. See the harbourfront, Akureyri Church and key streets, and note how fishing, education, services and regional transport all center on this town at the head of Eyjafjörður.
  • Borgarnes: Enjoy an orientation of Borganes, located on a peninsula at the shore of Borgarfjörður coastal region.
  • Snaefellsjokull National Park: Visit Snæfellsjökull National Park at the tip of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, where a glacier sits over a stratovolcano made widely known by Jules Verne’s Journey to the Center of the Earth. Coastal lava fields, cliffs and views towards the ice cap give a clear impression of how volcanic activity and the sea have shaped this area.
  • Arnarstapi: Walk the sea-cliff and admire the rock formations.
  • Reykjavik: Experience the magic of Iceland on an exhilarating flight-ride at FlyOver. This seated ride combines state-of-the-art technology and special effects to show you Iceland's spectacular scenery, it really feels like you are flying!
  • Reykjavik: Experience the natural wonders of Iceland on a visit to the Perlan Museum. Learn about glaciers, volcanoes and the Northern Lights through interactive displays.
