    Christchurch - Hokitika - Franz Josef (296 km)

    Nau mai, haere mai! That's how local Kiwis say "welcome!" Our journey in New Zealand will kick off as we depart Christchurch in the morning, making a fantastic trek across the Canterbury Plains and over Arthur's Pass, which will bring us to the West Coast. Around every corner, we will enjoy a picturesque view, so we should be sure to have our cameras ready. We will visit Hokitika, famous for its jade, before stopping in the town of Franz Josef.

      Once the center of the West Coast Gold Rush, Hokitika is a rural township whose major industries include greenstone and a growing ecotourism economy. On a clear day, visitors can see the stunning views of Mount Cook.

    Full day at Franz Josef

    We will enjoy a free day to explore the mighty Franz Josef Glacier, navigating a maze of ice and viewing the landscape. We can join a tour of the glacier at our own expense. The region also offers many spectacular hiking opportunities. In the evening, we can dine at any of the fin local restaurants in town or prepare our own dinner.

      The Franz Josef Glacier is a 12 meter (7.5 mile) long glacier that attracts upwards of 250,000 annual visitors. Guests can enjoy guided 1-2 hour hikes or helicopter tours exploring numerous ice falls, snow frosted mountain peaks, and spectacular views.

      The Franz Josef Glacier Valley Walk will take you up alongside the mighty Waiho River bed, following the glacier's path as it winds its way through this remarkable landscape.     Franz Josef - Makarora (286 km)

    Today we head down the West Coast towards Mount Aspiring National Park, stopping to take in some breathtaking scenery at the amazing mirror Lake Matheson, NZ's most photographed lake. See waterfalls as we travel through the mountainous Haast Pass towards Makarora then visit the stunning Blue Pools. On arrival in Mount Aspiring National Park we go jet boating, experience the best in shallow water boating skimming just inches from the riverbed, see pristine waterways, snow-capped peaks and native bush.

    Makarora - Fiordland National Park

    Fiordland National Park is one of New Zealand's most beautiful locations, featuring stunning ice-carved fiords, valleys, lakes and mountain scenery. It is our first port of call today. Within Fiordland, we will visit Doubtful Sound, the deepest of all the fjords, surrounded by towering peaks and huge waterfalls. We will board a purpose built boat and enjoy complimentary afternoon tea while cruising past fur seals, penguins and dolphins. We will also be able to rent out sea kayaks to explore the area.

    Fiordland National Park - Queenstown (235 km)

    Around midday, we will depart Doubtful Sound, leaving behind the Fiordland as we head to Queenstown, known as the "adventure capital of the world." We can enjoy a night on the town, exploring the area's restaurants, pubs and live music venues.

    Queenstown - Mount Cook (219 km)

    Today, we will start with a short drive to Wanaka, where we will spend the morning biking along scenic lakeside trails. After lunch, we will head over the Lindis Pass through the picturesque Mackenzie region to the base of Mount Cook. We will also have some time to hike through Hooker Valley, full of breathtaking views of dramatic mountain landscapes. We will also have the option of taking a scenic alpine flight.

    Mount Cook - Lake Tekapo - Christchurch (275 km)

    Today, we will make our way through a landscape made famous by the Lord of the Rings films. We will take a stroll around Lake Tekapo, known for its turquoise waters and historic church. Between Tekapo and Christchurch, we will have the option of going on a thrill-seeking white water adventure on the Rangitata River at our own expense. Those not rafting will continue to Christchurch, where our guide will point out some of the city's highlights. In the evening, our journey will come to an end.

      Redemption

    • Complete operator information, including local telephone numbers at your destination, is included on your e-ticket. You must print the e-tickets and take them along on your trip; they are your proof of purchase.

    The purchase of any travel services represents your acceptance Terms & Conditions set out herein. Please ensure that you read carefully and understand these Terms & Conditions prior to booking.

    Booking changes
    A fee may be charged for any revision or alteration made to a reservation after the booking is confirmed. Name changes or corrections may be treated as a cancellation and cancellation fees will apply. A change of tour date or tour itinerary may be treated as a cancellation, and normal cancellation fees will apply. Please be noted that we do not allow departure change 48 hours before departure.

    Cancellations and Cancellation Fees
    Regardless of reason, cancellations result in costly charges from our travel and hotel providers covering penalties and fees incurred by canceling confirmed and pending bookings. Therefore, cancellation penalties and or fees will apply. Time of cancellation will be determined when notice is received and confirmed by our office. Notice of cancellation must be made directly to TakeTours by email or through web mail at Contact Us .

    (Notification day and departure day are not counted)

    • 8 days or more prior to departure - 35% of total purchase amount.
    • 3-7 days prior to departure - 50% of total purchase amount.
    • Within 2 days prior to departure - 100% of total purchase amount.
    • Day of departure or no show - 100% per person.
    • Unused features are non-refundable. No shows forfeit entire payment.
    • Trips require a minimum number of participants to avoid cancellation. We reserve the right to cancel a schedule trip to fully refund affected customers although tour companies will make every efforts to maintain the normal operation.
    • There is 6% handling fee add-on to the above penalties.

    NOTE: We cannot grant any refunds more than 30 days after completion of tour.

    Itinerary Variations
    We constantly strives to improve tour itineraries and features. If such improvements can be made, or unforeseen circumstances beyond our control make changes necessary - we reserve the right to vary itineraries and to substitute hotels. At certain peak periods duplicate departures may operate, and sometimes in reverse order in which case hotels may vary from those stated on the itinerary pages.

    Tour Cancellation:
    We reserves the right to cancel or re-schedule any tour departure in accordance with operating requirements or circumstances beyond its control. If cancellation is made any time prior to departure* of the tour, TakeTours' only liability will be to refund to the passenger the amount it has received for the tour booking. We will try to re-book the same or similar tour.. Please note that we are not liable for any cancellation penalties incurred on any other travel arrangements including air tickets purchased separately from customers.

    We are not responsible for any other travel arrangements affected due to our cancellations.
