Day 4: Catamaran to Korcula Island, Hike from Pupnat to Korcula (45 km)

This morning, travel by catamaran to the Dalmatian Island of Korcula. Begin your hike from Pupnat to Korcula. During the hike view vineyards, panoramas of Skoji archipelago and interesting rock formations. Make a stop in Zrnovo village to taste local products and drinks, while learning about traditional life in the region. Afterward, continue hiking downhill and arrive in Korcula in the afternoon. Explore the Old Town, birthplace of the legendary explorer Marco Polo with its beautiful Romanesque-Gothic cathedral
Activity Level: Moderate, 6.9 miles, 4 hours
  • Korcula Island, Croatia

Rich in vineyards, olive groves and small villages, and harbouring a glorious old town, the island of Korčula is the sixth-largest Adriatic island, stretching nearly 47km in length. Dense pine forests led the original Greek settlers to call the island Korkyra Melaina (Black Corfu). Quiet coves and small sandy beaches dot the steep southern coast while the northern shore is flatter and more pebbly.

    Pupnat

The village of Pupnat is one of the smallest villages on the island. It is a traditional agricultural village situated among the hills at the edge of the small, fertile field. A few kilometers from the village, at the southern coastline, with the views all the way to Lastovo island, are situated bays and beaches of Pupnatska Luka and Bacva, both easily accessible by car, scooter, or bicycle.

    Zrnovo

Just over a thousand people reside in the four hamlets that make up Zrnovo. These are Prvo Selo, Brdo, Kampus and Postrana. Croatian life is significantly quieter here than in the town of Korcula. There a handful of cafes and traditional restaurants, a few supermarkets and the customary churches. Walking and cycling routes are plentiful, allowing you to explore nature at its best.

    Korcula Town

Korcula Town is the main resorts of Korcula Island, people call it “Little Dubrovnik” because of its medieval squares, churches, palaces and houses.

Forest-shrouded Mljet is one of the most seductive of all the Adriatic islands. The establishment of a national park in 1960 at its western end put the island on the tourist map, but Mljet is anything but overrun. Visitors are almost entirely drawn to the tourist enclave around Pomena. The remainder of the island retains the unspoilt air of tranquillity that, according to legend, captivated Odysseus for seven years.
