    Acropolis

    Acropolis
    The Acropolis of Athens is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that has been standing strong for more than two thousand years. Its most famous building is the Parthenon, an ancient temple dedicated to the goddess of wisdom, Athena.

    Propylaea

    Any monumental gateway in ancient Greek architecture. The prototypical Greek example is the propylaea that serves as the entrance to the Acropolis in Athens. The Greek Revival Brandenburg Gate of Berlin and the Propylaea in Munich both evoke the central portion of the Athens propylaea.

    Parthenon

    A former temple on the Athenian Acropolis dedicated to the goddess Athena constructed from 447 BC to 438 BC. Its decorative sculptures are considered some of the high points of Greek art.

    Erechtheion

    An ancient Greek temple on the north side of the Acropolis of Athens in Greece which was dedicated to both Athena and Poseidon. The temple as seen today was built between 421 and 406 BC.
