Day 1: Auckland - Paihia(201 km)

Depart from Auckland, we will head northbound for the relaxed seaside town of Paihia, gateway to the beautiful Bay of Islands. On the way we'll learn about the rich early European and Maori history of the region. After stopping to see giant kauri trees en-route, we will continue on to Paihia, where we will have our free afternoon to explore this charming seaside town.

Day 2: Paihia - Cape Reinga - Paihia(426 km)

Today, we will travel to Cape Reinga, the northernmost point in New Zealand. One of the highlights of the day will be our visit to 90 Mile Beach and the chance to sample some delicious fish and chips on the way back to Paihia.

Day 3: Paihia - Auckland(184 km)

In the morning, we will depart Auckland and head south to the Coromandel Peninsula via the old colonial town of Thames. We will settle into our accommodation in Hahei before heading to Hot Water Beach.

We will also be able to take a glass-bottom boat tour through the nearby marine reserve.

Tonight, your hosts will teach you how to prepare a traditional 'Hangi' (a feast cooked underground) and introduce us a fun stick game to challenge your hand-eye coordination. For those visiting during school term, you will learn about a local community program.

After breakfast, we will travel to Taupo to see Huka Falls and go skydiving if we are brave! In the afternoon, we will make our way to the Blue Duck Station, a 7,200 acre farm that is also a leader in environmental conservation, where we will spend the night.

At 6:00am, we will make our way to Tongariro National Park to explore a landscape marked by active volcanoes. We will walk the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, getting to see some epic scenery and the chance to walk along the base of the mountain that served as Mount Doom in the Lord of the Rings movies. In the evening, we can enjoy in the spa pool in the hotel or relax with a celebratory drink by the fire.

  • Booking changes
    A fee may be charged for any revision or alteration made to a reservation after the booking is confirmed. Name changes or corrections may be treated as a cancellation and cancellation fees will apply. A change of tour date or tour itinerary may be treated as a cancellation, and normal cancellation fees will apply. Please be noted that we do not allow departure change 48 hours before departure.
  • Cancellations and Cancellation Fees
    Regardless of reason, cancellations result in costly charges from our travel and hotel providers covering penalties and fees incurred by canceling confirmed and pending bookings. Therefore, cancellation penalties and or fees will apply. Time of cancellation will be determined when notice is received and confirmed by our office. Notice of cancellation must be made directly to TakeTours by email or through web mail at Contact Us .

    8 days or more prior to departure - 20% of total purchase amount.
    3-7 days prior to departure - 50% of total purchase amount.
    Within 2 days prior to departure - 100% of total purchase amount.
    Day of departure or no show - 100% per person.
    Unused features are non-refundable. No shows forfeit entire payment.
    Trips require a minimum number of participants to avoid cancellation. We reserve the right to cancel a schedule trip to fully refund affected customers although tour companies will make every efforts to maintain the normal operation.
    The refund amount will be credited directly to your account. Or the refund can also be forwarded directly to your credit card with a 10% handling fee.
  • Itinerary Variations
    We constantly strives to improve tour itineraries and features. If such improvements can be made, or unforeseen circumstances beyond our control make changes necessary - we reserve the right to vary itineraries and to substitute hotels. At certain peak periods duplicate departures may operate, and sometimes in reverse order in which case hotels may vary from those stated on the itinerary pages.
  • Tour Cancellation:
    We reserves the right to cancel or re-schedule any tour departure in accordance with operating requirements or circumstances beyond its control. If cancellation is made any time prior to departure* of the tour, TakeTours' only liability will be to refund to the passenger the amount it has received for the tour booking. We will try to re-book the same or similar tour. Please note that we are not liable for any cancellation penalties incurred on any other travel arrangements including air tickets purchased separately from customers. We are not responsible for any other travel arrangements affected due to our cancellations.

Additional Note

  • Room upgrades do not apply in Hahei.
  • A basic level of fitness is required for medium length walks.
  • What to Bring: Sturdy walking shoes (ankle high), swimming gear, hat and sunscreen, motion sickness tablets, water bottle, towel and toiletries, warm clothing and waterproof jacket, insect repellent, camera.
  • Luggage should be restricted to 15kg in a single bag, plus a small day pack.
