Malacca was a prosperous centre that attracted powerful invaders from the West.
In 1511, the Portuguese took control of Malacca followed by the Dutch in 1641 and from 1826 it was then ruled by the British East India Company.
This once-battered city shows its remnants left behind by each rule during its glorious days. From the narrow streets to the Malacca River bank, colorful arts and riverside cafes are a great draw for the camera bugs or to laze around for a drink.
Stroll along the narrow street of Jonker’s Street, Street of Harmony and to Cheng Hoon Teng, Kampung Kling Mosque and Sri Poyatha Moorthi Hindu Temple. Look out for the local delicacies, wooden clogs, and antiques before settling down for an authentic Baba Nyona Lunch.
