The Sacred Valley is intersected by the River Urubamba to the north of Cuzco and features stunning Andean landscapes full of fauna and flora.
Leave behind Cusco and head for Chinchero, a traditional urban center located on a high point with a beautiful view of the valley. The inhabitants of this area preserve the craft traditions and knowledge inherited from the Incas. Admire the archaeological remains and a beautiful 17th-century church before heading to the Yucay Museum of Living Culture, a center for the interpretation of Andean traditions that allows you to experience and learn a little bit more about the history of the Inca Empire.
Next head to Ollantaytambo where you will enjoy a delicious lunch before visiting the local archaeological site which has been continuously inhabited since Inca times. Climb up to the ruins of the hillside Inca fortress Ollantaytambo, built by Inca Emperor Pachacutec, the same man who built Machu Picchu.
