Our journey begins in Trastevere, one of the oldest and most beautiful neighbourhoods in the Eternal City. Famous for its cobbled streets and bohemian atmosphere, the unique beauty of strolling through its narrow alleys and slowly getting lost in its labyrinth of lanes is an experience like no other. The first stop in Trastevere is to taste a must of Roman culinary tradition, the famous “polpette alla romana” – succulent minced meatballs seasoned with aromatic herbs and cheese, accompanied by a glass of local wine for an authentic experience.
Our itinerary in Trastevere leads us to a local bakery to savour the renowned “pizza bianca.” This crispy pizza, often served with olive oil and salt, is a Roman icon. In our tasting, we’ll pair it with local cured meats or the famous porchetta, another icon of Roman tradition. When these two excellences meet on the pizza bianca, the result is a perfect marriage of crunchiness and tenderness, intense aromas, and enveloping taste.
We’ll continue to stroll through the enchanting alleys of this timeless neighbourhood, with our guide sharing some historical insights and surprising anecdotes. After delighting our palate in Trastevere, we’ll cross the picturesque Tiber River to reach Tiber Island.
