Full description
St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican is an important church to visit for many reasons. Built on the site of one of the first Holy Roman basilicas, it was completed in 1590 at the height of the Renaissance. Among the artists who worked on it were Michelangelo, Raphael, and Bernini. Many of the great popes were buried here, including the first, St. Peter. You can even see the cross on the dome, which contains pieces of the timber that Jesus died on. From the top viewing platform, you’ll see how the shape of the basilica and St. Peter’s Square forms the shape of a key – the symbol of the Christian popes.
You will still be inside the Basilica complex, and so your day continues with another highlight. You can take advantage of the access already gained in the morning to visit St. Peter’s Basilica on your own, without having to join the long lines to enter it. Here you can discover the incredible Papal Altar under Bernini’s Baldachin, and marvel at Michelangelo’s other timeless masterpiece, La Pietà, as you discover the most important church in the Christian world. Once outside again, you can admire Bernini’s clever optical illusion in St. Peter’s Square, spot the balcony from which the Pope delivers his public addresses and snap photos of the basilica’s heavenly façade, having covered the Vatican and St. Peter’s from top to bottom!

The Basilica has strict dress code requirements for both children and adults. Modest dress is obligatory for visits to holy sites; knees and shoulders must be covered We cannot be held responsible for refused entry due to improper dress. The participation on this Tour will be denied to any guest under the influence of drugs or alcohol or to any guest whose behavior is disorderly, or poses a threat to other guests or staff.
