Set in the lush hills of the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta is the Taironaka ecotourism centre, where you can come and discover nature and ancient archaeology together in harmony. Relax, contemplate and be at one with the verdant surroundings at Taironaka or enjoy a walk through ecological paths and admire the ancient archaeological sites that characterise the area.
From Santa Marta, we travel 35 miles to the Taironaka ecotourism centre, situated on the banks of the River Don Diego. Rich in culture, wildlife and flora this is a truly special place to cleanse the soul and connect with nature. Take one of the many ecological walks to appreciate the colourful flowers, rich vegetation and beautiful surroundings that make this place so distinctive, or kayak down the fresh waters of the River Don Diego for a different view of the area. Walk along the precolonial Indian terraces or through the lush gardens, and learn all about the ancient culture at the museum. A town once belonging to an ancient civilisation, the museum holds testament to this with 300 pieces of ceramic and stone pieces as well as funeral urns, amongst many other objects, on display. The area also boasts rich wildlife that lives amongst the high trees such as small monkeys, birds and parrots and other species which you might be lucky enough to catch sight of. Taironaka ecotourism centre is an exceptional place to escape the city, cleanse your spirit and is a must see for any tourist to the area.

You'll be picked up from the hotel to where we start the tour at the Rodadero, just ten minutes away from Santa Marta. One of the most visited places in the city, here you'll find the life and soul of the city with its collection of bars, restaurants and hotels all set against the backdrop of the Caribbean Sea. Next we take you back in time to the 17th century Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino, the location where the famed liberator Simon Bolivar died in 1820. At the time the estate produced rum, honey and panela and here you can still admire the architecture from that period. Continue further back in time to pre-Columbian times at the Gold Museum. A fine colonial mansion, also called Casa de la Aduana, the museum was completely renovated in 2014 and houses a fine collection of pre-Columbian gold and Tayrona objects. Head through the historic city centre of Santa Marta before travelling 5km north to Taganga Bay, an idyllic fishing village surrounded by desert mountains and clear waters.

Discover the creatures of the ocean at one of the richest aquariums on the Atlantic Coast. Come and learn about 276 fascinating species of fish at the Mundo Marino aquarium in Santa Marta and end the day with a refreshing dip in the ocean!
You'll be picked up from your hotel and taken to the underwater world at Mundo Marino. With expert and knowledgeable guides on hand, you'll learn all about the friendly and not so friendly residents. With 2132 creatures to see, you'll discover the hidden treasures of the ocean, from jellyfish to rays and turtles. There are three sections to the aquarium; you'll be welcomed in at the lobby before heading up to the 2nd section where there are 34 aquariums with 24 different marine atmospheres, including contact tanks for a hands on experience. You then move on to the next section where you can admire the ocean from below through a tunnel, with some of the largest pools in South America.
