I had a free day in Cairns on the last day and took a hot-air balloon ride at dawn, which was a peaceful experience as we slowly rose. Breakfast was included at the hotel, but I paid for my own lunch and dinner that day.

Itinerary
Day 1
Flight arrival before 9:30am, then take a tour
After airport pickup, drive to Palm Cove, where the many European-style buildings may make you feel like you are in a European town. Continue to the upscale resort town of Port Douglas; walk barefoot on the golden beach and relax under swaying palm trees. At Wildlife Habitat in Port Douglas, there is the chance to have lunch with Australian birds and get close to Australian animals such as kangaroos and koalas. Then continue to Daintree National Park and Mossman Gorge, where you can walk through ancient rainforest with clear streams flowing past, birds singing, butterflies dancing, and fish swimming around. Lie on smooth boulders washed by the river, close your eyes, and enjoy being at one with nature. Return with photos and a happy mood, and transfer back to your hotel. Today's itinerary can be replaced with a Sky City / Atherton Tablelands day tour. Note: please book a flight arriving before 09:30.

Depart from the hotel in the morning for Paronella Park. The Spanish castle ruins are said to be the inspiration for the Japanese animation classic 'Castle in the Sky', which is why the site is also called 'Sky City'. A park guide takes you through the carefully planned castle, restoring the splendour of the old castle and telling the story behind it. There is a lunch stop at the park. Continue to Millaa Millaa Falls, known for its beauty and sometimes called the Bride's Veil, like a white curtain falling through the rainforest. Drive on through red-soil farmland beneath wide blue northern skies and stop at the Curtain Fig Tree, an enormous strangler fig whose roots have grown together like a curtain. Continue through tropical rainforest to Lake Barrine, a peaceful volcanic crater lake. Walk along the lakeside trail to look for the thousand-year-old lovers' tree, or enjoy coffee and homemade scones at the lakeside café while overlooking the lake surrounded by rainforest. Return to Cairns at sunset.

Make your own way to the wharf in the morning and take the ferry to Fitzroy Island, one of the best-preserved islands of the Great Barrier Reef, with diverse terrain, striking granite outcrops, open woodlands, rainforest, mangroves, and coral beaches. At your own expense, you can join a glass-bottom boat, snorkeling, kayaking, or diving. You may also follow the rainforest trail to the lighthouse or climb the summit for panoramic views, or simply lie on the beach, sunbathe, and watch the tides. Overnight at Fitzroy Island Resort.

Fitzroy Island is a tropical island near Cairns, known for its clear waters, coral reefs, and abundant marine life, ideal for snorkeling, diving, and hiking.
Take the ferry from Fitzroy Island wharf to Moore Reef. Because Moore Reef is an outer reef closer to open sea and less visited, its coral formations are better preserved, more colorful, and the water is clearer. After arriving at the offshore platform, take a glass-bottom boat to view coral reefs and tropical fish, and use the free snorkeling equipment provided on board to swim with fish and sea turtles. Optional at your own expense: Sea Walk (AUD 159), scuba diving (AUD 149), or a 10-minute helicopter flight (AUD 189). A seafood buffet is served on board. After enjoying the day, return to Cairns. No guide accompanies you on this day, but Chinese-speaking staff are on board.

Moore Reef Deep Sea Dive
Dive deep at Moore Reef to explore the Great Barrier Reef's deeper coral formations and larger marine life, for certified divers.
Moore Reef Sea Walk
Walk on the seabed at Moore Reef with a helmet sea walk, observing corals and marine life up close without diving experience.
Enjoy a free day in Cairns in your own way. You may take a hot-air balloon at dawn and greet the first light as the balloon slowly rises, experiencing tranquility and romance; go horse riding through the rainforest; complete a skydive if you like a challenge; or go fishing and crabbing to taste fresh Great Barrier Reef seafood while relaxing. More exciting activities are available. About 1.5 hours before flight departure, you will be transferred to the airport.
