From the moment you arrive in Cairo, the Nile threads between date palms and ochre rooftops, while the scent of warm bread and aromatic spices drifts through the streets and the desert stretches beyond the city. After your transfer, you can unwind at the hotel and explore its elegant amenities. Over a drink, you'll meet your Travel Director and fellow travelers, exchanging names before glasses rise in a toast to Egypt.

Cairo, Egypt's sprawling capital, is set on the Nile River. Nearby, Giza is site of the iconic pyramids and Great Sphinx, dating to the 26th century B.C.E. In Gezira Island's leafy Zamalek district, 187m Cairo Tower affords panoramic city views.
Flying south with your Travel Director, you'll arrive in Luxor and enter Karnak between ram-headed sphinxes, their carved faces lining the avenue into the temple complex. In the Hypostyle Hall, papyrus-shaped columns rise in every direction, their sandstone surfaces dense with hieroglyphs and faint traces of ancient color. Light slips through the open roof and catches the raised edges of gods, pharaohs and papyrus blooms. After settling into your cruise ship, your home for four nights, you'll share lunch on board before visiting the Luxor Museum. Carefully lit statues of kings and gods meet your gaze before you pause at two royal mummies, preserved across millennia.

Across the Nile’s west bank, you'll leave the river behind for pale cliffs, open desert and the immense seated forms of the Colossi of Memnon. Hatshepsut’s temple rises in long terraces against the rock, while in the Valley of the Kings you'll enter cool, dry chambers painted with gods, stars and royal figures, cut deep into the hills for rulers including Tutankhamun. In Geziret Bahirat, you tear bread with the Bahirat family and listen to their tales of village life. At Luxor Temple, colossal statues and carved processions fill the stone unearthed by Mariette in the 1860s. Back on board, the ship eases into Esna Lock, water pressing softly against the hull as the gates close and the vessel rises towards Edfu for the night.

Early light catches Kom Ombo’s sandstone temple as you sail towards its distinctive double design. Inside, two entrances open into parallel passages, columned halls and twin sanctuaries, one for Sobek, the crocodile god, and one for Horus the Elder, the falcon god. Back on board, you can choose between two experiences: hear the pan sizzle as rich aromas fill the room during an Egyptian cooking demonstration, or cradle a glass of hot tea with the Captain while the river slides past the deck. By evening, jewel-toned galabeyas sweep through the dining room as you share an Egyptian-themed dinner, with warm dishes on the table as the sun sets over the Nile.

At Aswan’s High Dam, you pause above the vast blue of Lake Nasser before entering the granite quarries, where the unfinished obelisk lies bound to the bedrock, its immense shaft never released from the stone. You'll cross the water by motorboat to Philae, the engine humming as the Temple of Isis waits ahead. Inside, lotus-topped columns border shadowed courtyards and reliefs of the goddess are cut into the walls of one of the final temples built in the classical Egyptian style. Later, a felucca’s canvas sail billows overhead and its timber mast creaks softly as a local sailor shares the practices used to read the wind and navigate the Nile. At the historic Old Cataract Hotel, fragrant steam rises from freshly poured tea while the buttery sweetness of pastries hangs in the air. Sir Winston Churchill once stayed here, while Agatha Christie is said to have written part of Death on the Nile within its walls. After dark, you'll return by boat to Philae, as gold and cobalt light color the pylons and quiver in the water below.

After leaving your cruise ship, you can fly south on today’s Optional Experience to Abu Simbel, where four immense figures of Ramesses II sit above Lake Nasser, their crowns rising against the Nubian sky. You'll enter the shadowed Great Temple, cut deep into the mountain, while nearby the Temple of Hathor honours Queen Nefertari beside the pharaoh. Or remain in Aswan and follow the tart perfume of dried hibiscus through the Nubian bazaar, where crimson petals fill woven baskets beside embroidered cloth and bundles of fragrant herbs. You might spend the morning beneath the leafy canopies of the Botanical Gardens, before crossing to Elephantine Island for its Nubian villages and ancient remains or visit the white Aga Khan Mausoleum high on the west bank. You'll return to Cairo by air for the night.

- LUGGAGE ALLOWANCE: Each guest is permitted one bag with maximum dimensions of 58 linear inches (147 cm), the total of length, width, and height - and a weight not exceeding 44 lbs (20 kg). Guests may also bring one personal item, such as a purse, backpack, or similarly sized item that fits comfortably under the seat in front of them or the overhead compartment weighing no more than 15 lbs (7kg).
- MOTORCOACH: The Business Class legroom that is provided on motorcoaches in other regions is not provided on this itinerary due to regional limitations with vehicles.

Inter-city Travel: By private motor coach, trains and ferries.
Touring: By air-conditioned / air-ventilated motor coaches. Please note that on some Regional European First Class Tours and London sightseeing, motor coaches without toilet facilities are used. In the Middle East and South America, air-conditioned / air-ventilated motor coaches (or minibuses) without toilet facilities are used. If due to circumstances beyond our control coaches are used otherwise than as advertised, a refund of $10 per person will be made.
Touring: By air-conditioned / air-ventilated motor coaches. Please note that on some Regional European First Class Tours and London sightseeing, motor coaches without toilet facilities are used. Hotel Accommodation: Prices are per person and based on two persons sharing a twin-bedded room with private bath or shower. When booking triple rooms please note that the third bed may be a 'roll-away' bed. Availability of triple rooms is limited. Note that single rooms in European hotels are generally smaller than twin-bedded rooms and European hotel standards, facilities and services provided may vary from those in other parts of the world and are often local in style.
Tour Director: Escorted tours are conducted in English only by a professional multi-lingual Tour Director.
Porterage & Luggage Allowance: Baggage handling for one suitcase per person on tour, at hotels, is included in the tour price. Due to limited coach capacity, this single bag should have dimensions not exceeding 30"x18"x10" (76x46x25cm) and weight not exceeding 50 lbs (23kg). A charge of up to US$5 per traveling day will be collected by the Tour Director if a second piece of baggage is carried, or if the suitcase exceeds the established weight and/or dimensions. However it cannot be guaranteed that more than one suitcase will be carried. Hand luggage should be one piece per person and should be limited in size (not exceeding 30x28x14cm or 12x11x6) so as to fit under your coach seat or in the small overhead shelf. These are the responsibility of each tour member and should be taken onto the motor coach with you. Please note that luggage with telescopic handles and wheels will not fit in the overhead compartments and can therefore not be accepted as carry-on luggage for safety reasons. Porterage at train stations is not included. We will not accept liability for any loss or damage to baggage or any of the passenger's belongings. Passengers should report any lost items to the Tour Director who will assist in completing a lost property form that can be used for any insurance claim in this matter. However, we cannot assist in locating any lost items once the passenger has returned home.
Tips and Taxes: All tips are included for services on tour provided by dining-room waiters, chambermaids and porters at hotels.
Airfair Exclusions: Airfares to and from your destination, except where specified, airport taxes and fees; passport and visa fees; airline fees for checked and/or excess baggage; airport transfers; insurances of all kinds; tips to Tour Directors, motor coach drivers, local city guides and cruise staff; gratuities on ferries, trains and cruise ships; porterage at train stations; laundry; phone calls; minibar; beverages; meals not detailed in the itinerary; optional excursions; and all items of a personal nature. The tour price also does not cover costs and expenses, including the return to your home, if you leave the tour at your own volition or due to illness, or as a consequence of official action by the government of any country visited.

We cannot be held responsible if a passenger is denied entry for being unable to provide details to the authorities of such insurance. We do not employ staff doctors or nurses. Should you need medical attention, it will be at local facilities, at your expense. We are not responsible for any costs incurred as a result of medical services, or for the quality of medical care or medical services you receive.
Complaints procedure: Should you have a complaint in respect of your vacation, you should inform your Tour Director/Representative immediately. If the matter cannot be resolved after the Tour Director's/Representative's best endeavors to do so during the holiday.

Where the passenger occupies a motorcoach seat fitted with a safety belt, neither the Operators nor their agents or co-operating organizations or service providers concerned will be liable for any injury, illness or death or for any loss or damages or claims whatsoever arising from any accident or incident, if the safety belt is not being worn at the time of such accident or incident.
3. Transportation companies, are not to be held responsible for any act, omission or event during the time passengers are not on transportation or conveyances. We rely on international convention which may apply to the services provided by us, our suppliers or agents with respect to any claim of any nature brought by you against us as a result of the provision of those services. International conventions which apply may include: Warsaw Convention 1929, (as amended by Hague Protocol and Montreal Protocol) in relation to air travel, or Montreal Convention; the Berne Convention for rail travel; Athens Convention 1974 for carriage by sea; the Geneva Convention for carriage by road and the Paris Convention 1962 for Hotels. We are to be regarded as having all benefit of these conventions on limiting our liability in relation to any claim for death, injury, loss, damage and delay to passengers and luggage. Passports are needed when traveling outside your home country. Your passport should be valid for 6 months beyond the conclusion of your trip.
You are responsible for obtaining all necessary visas prior to the departure of your tour. Depending on your nationality, you may need visas to enter certain countries included on your tour. Please note that obtaining visas can take up to six weeks prior to your departure. It is strongly advised that you consult your travel agent, and local Consulate or Embassy of the country you are visiting, well in advance to determine which visas you require and how to obtain them.
The meals on tour will provide you with a balanced diet and are based on local foods and menus. We can accommodate passengers who prefer a vegetarian diet and can assist with diabetic, gluten free and other medically recommended diets. Please advise at time of booking. We regret that we are unable to supply meals in accordance with strict religious requirements.
Most hotels do offer laundry service, and in some cities Laundromats are also available. However, it is a good idea to try and pack enough clothing without having to do laundry, as it can sometimes be costly and/or inconvenient.
Yes, your Tour Director will implement a seat rotation system, whereby passengers rotate seats on the coach daily. This allows for all passengers to experience the different views from various seats and maximize interaction.
We regret that no refunds can be made for absences from a tour, including but not limited to, missed meals or sightseeing.
Due to limited space on the motor coach, you are requested to bring one suitcase per person with the dimensions of 30in. x 18in. x 10in. (76cm x 46cm x 25cm) and weight not exceeding 23kg. You can also bring one piece of hand luggage, provided it is small enough to take on the coach and does not have telescope handles.
Yes, baggage handling is provided at no extra charge. One suitcase per person will be brought to your hotel room.
We have pre-paid certain tips and gratuities for you such as all baggage handling at hotels and ports. Tips to restaurant staff for meals are also included in the price of your tour.
Tips are customarily given to your Tour Director, Driver and Local Guides at your discretion. The recommended amounts are: Tour Directors US$4 per day, Drivers US$2.50 per day and Local Guides US$1 per day.
