Itinerary
Arrive in Chiang Rai and meet with our representative. Then, transfer and check in at the selected hotel, enjoying the rest of the day free at leisure. Maybe explore the heart of the old town, which dates from the reign of King Mangrai in the 13th century, or wander around the bustling night bazaar to catch a glimpse of the spirit of this beautiful area.
Chiang Rai, Thailand
Chiang Rai is Thailand's northernmost province, renowned for its stunning mountain scenery, rich cultural heritage and unique temple architecture, serving as the gateway to the Golden Triangle region.
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, before heading to the centre to admire the iconic monument of King Mangrai, en route to the Hilltribe Museum and Education Centre. Learn all about the dozens of hill tribes who, for centuries, have lived in the highlands around the city and how they have survived the spread of globalisation. Continue to the Mae Chan district to explore the remote hill tribe villages of Yao and Akha people, and experience their way of life first-hand. Head towards Mae Sai, a small border town with a busy market, before going into the heart of the infamous Golden Triangle, where Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet. This natural wilderness gained an unwanted notoriety in the Sixties because of the abundant opium cultivation in the area. After lunch, continue to Chiang Saen to visit the hilltop Wat Phra That Chom Kitti, which is reached via a 350-step staircase. Return to Chiang Rai and have the rest of the day free at leisure.

King Mangrai Monument
The spiritual heart of Chiang Rai, honoring King Mangrai, founder of the Lanna Kingdom and the city in 1262. The bronze statue in traditional royal attire stands before three giant golden Lanna flags, a focal point for locals paying respect
Hilltribe Museum and Education Centre
A compact museum run by the nonprofit PDA, focusing on six major hill tribes—Akha, Lahu, Yao, Karen, Lisu, and Hmong—through displays of clothing, bamboo tools, and migration history, aiming to build awareness for responsible tourism before village visits.
Mae Sai
Thailand’s northernmost border town, facing Tachileik, Myanmar, across the Mae Sai River. Its busy market street is known for jade and Myanmar-Thai goods, making it a key overland trading gateway in the Golden Triangle region.
Golden Triangle Park
The tri-border area where Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar meet at the confluence of the Mekong and Ruak rivers. Once notorious for opium cultivation in the 1960s, it is now a tourist site with giant riverside Buddhas and boat trips viewing the three countries.
Wat Phra That Chom Kitti
An ancient hilltop temple in Chiang Saen, traditionally founded around 940 CE. Its Chiang Saen-style stupa has a square base with twelve indented corners. Access is via a 350-step staircase, with sweeping views of the Mekong River and Chiang Saen.
Begin your journey after breakfast at the hotel, heading towards Chiang Mai. On the southern outskirts of Chiang Rai, stop at the magnificent Wat Rong Khun. Continue to Chiang Mai and, on arrival, visit Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. To reach the temple you must climb up a 309-step naga staircase. Alternatively, you can use the cable car to reach the temple. Afterwards, head to the riverbank and hop on a boat for a cruise along the scenic River Ping. Relax, enjoy the cruise, and then visit a farm to savour a delicious khao soi noodle curry and watch a fascinating dance performance. After a walk through the local flower and fresh produce market, return to the hotel.

Elephant Jungle Sanctuary (Grand Canyon Branch)
An ethical sanctuary operating on a “no riding, no performances” philosophy. Visitors feed and observe elephants roaming freely in a natural environment, learning about care and conservation through respectful, hands-on interaction.
Wat Suan Dok
Built on the site of a 14th-century Lanna royal garden, this temple features a 48-metre Sri Lankan-style bell-shaped golden chedi enshrining Buddha relics. The surrounding white stupas mark the royal cemetery, and the sunset views are renowned.

Wat Chedi Luang
At the very heart of the old city and begun in the late 14th century, this temple once housed the Emerald Buddha. Its massive Lanna-style chedi originally rose nearly 98 metres; reduced to about 42 metres by earthquake and war, the ruined core remains Chiang Mai’s most striking historic landmark.
