Discover the beauty of the Atacama Salt Flat on a full-day tour from San Pedro de Atacama. Visit the village of Toconao, the Chaxa Lagoon, the village of Socaire, and the Miscanti and Meniques lagoons.
Start your tour with a visit to the village of Toconao, known for its simplicity, calm people, special climate, beautiful architecture, and crafts. Continue to the Chaxa Lagoon, located in the Soncor sector of the Los Flamencos National Reserve.
Head southeast to the Andes mountain range and stop at the village of Socaire. Visit the church and learn about the local agriculture. Continue to the Miscanti and Meniques lagoons, located at an altitude of 4,200 meters above sea level in the Los Flamencos National Reserve.
Admire the lagoons, which are surrounded by volcanoes and mountainous reliefs such as the Miscanti Hill and the Meniques Volcano. Keep an eye out for local wildlife such as the horned coot, the Andean flamingo, the Baird's sandpiper, the puna plover, the Andean duck, and the Andean goose.
See the local flora, which is mainly composed of cushion plants and grasses. Continue to the Talar Salt Flat, known as the Red Stones, where the rocks are subjected to natural oxidation and weathering, creating a unique landscape
The Atacama salt flat is the largest salt deposit in Chile and is formed by a depression with no water outlet that receives the San Pedro River and multiple ravines through which water filters from the mountain range.
Inside this, is the Cejar Lagoon, beautiful and mystical which has a turquoise color. Its high salt content generates the floating effect which makes a relaxing bath and a fun experience.
Next, we will visit Ojos del Salar, formed by two pools of water from underground layers where small reeds and algae grow on their banks.
Finally, in Laguna Tebenquiche we will enjoy the great whiteness of salt, together with an aperitif and contemplating the reflection of the mountain range in its waters, definitely an unforgettable spectacle.
El Tatio (from the Kunza "tata-iu") which means "the grandfather who cries", is one of the highest Geyser fields in the world. Located in the Cordillera de Los Andes to the NE of San Pedro de Atacama, it is the largest group of geysers in the southern hemisphere and the third largest in the world, after Yellowstone (USA) and Dolina Giezerow (Russia).
The maximum expression of these fumaroles begins between 6am and 7am approx. With temperatures reaching 85 C. On our return, it is possible to observe fauna such as vicunas, llamas, rheas, vizcachas, etc. While in the flora stands out the giant cacti, llaretas, coiron, etc. We will observe from a viewpoint, the small ancestral town of Machuca, its few inhabitants are mainly dedicated to grazing and cheese production, very close to the place is the Laguna Salada where families of flamingos, ducks and seagulls live with an imposing landscape of beauty.
