They are believed to have been the work of the Tehuelche branch of the Mapuche nation around 3000 years ago. The first European to see them was the famous Argentinian explorer Francisco Pascasio Moreno in the late nineteenth century.
When we arrive at this important archaeological site, your knowledgeable local guide will accompany you on a 500m walking tour of the area, providing you with fascinating information about the characteristics of the pre-Tehuelche and Tehuelche cultures. You will also learn all about the singular geological characteristics of the area. You'll also get some stunning views of a deep blue glacial lake.

The adventure begins in El Calafate, traveling along Route 11 while we border the imposing waters of Lake Argentino. Along the 80 km completely paved route towards the majestic Perito Moreno Glacier, each kilometer gives us surprising landscapes.
From the beginning, the Patagonian beauty surrounds us: to the right, the immense Argentine Lake and its Redonda Bay, home to a diverse avian fauna. Among the most notable inhabitants, the elegant, black-necked swan, the vibrant flamingos, the steam ducks, the curious coots and the majestic cauquenes accompany us with their flights and colors. The gold of the countryside, a product of native grasses such as coiron, colors the horizon and reminds us of the uniqueness of the Patagonian steppe.
The first 40 km pass through this vast steppe, before entering Los Glaciares National Park, where the landscape changes drastically. In just 20 minutes of navigation, we will be in front of the impressive southern wall of the Perito Moreno Glacier.
Here the unforgettable begins... We will walk for 30 minutes with spectacular views of the glacier. With a little luck, we will witness ice slides. Upon reaching the base of the glacier, the landscape will take your breath away: intense blues, dazzling whites and ice shapes that defy the imagination.
Get ready to capture unique moments. There will be plenty of time to take photos, contemplate in silence and connect with this natural wonder. Discover the National Capital of Trekking and be amazed by this mountain village. Be mesmerized by the incredible landscapes and explore some of its trails.
We will start at 7:30 am with hotel pickups in El Calafate. Once the pickups are completed, we will embark on a journey to the town of El Chalten (National Capital of Trekking), located 220 km from El Calafate.
During our journey, we will cross the Santa Cruz River and make a brief stop at Estancia La Leona, next to the river of the same name. There, you can use the restroom facilities and enjoy homemade cakes and hot beverages (not included).
We will then continue our journey to El Chalten, skirting the Viedma Lake with its homonymous glacier. Weather permitting, you will have breathtaking views of Mount Chalten (also known as Fitz Roy) and Mount Torre, as well as the Viedma Glacier and its stunning icebergs.
Upon arrival in Chalten, you will have 5 hours to explore and enjoy this small mountain village (please consider the details if you choose the option with packed lunch or lunch).
Available year-round and ideal for those who prefer a less demanding hike. Visit the Mirador de los Condores, approximately 700 meters away with low difficulty, and the Chorrillo del Salto, a completely flat 300-meter walk. You will be accompanied by a guide.
