Prolific businessman Sir Henry Pellatt commissioned Casa Loma in 1911 to be built as his "dream castle." The mansion took three years to complete and cost Pellatt $3.5 million dollars (almost $85 million in today's money). Today, the intimidating stone castle, which is three stories tall and includes stables, a potting shed and a separate two-story Hunting Lodge, serves as a museum and tourist attraction. Aside from the glorious architecture, visitors can view the estate's gardens.
