Itinerary
In the morning, guests will be picked up from the specified departure locations in Lisbon. Today, we will explore the beautiful Portuguese capital, beginning by crossing the April 25th Bridge. Then, we will explore the Belem Quarter, which features beautiful historical monuments from the 15th and 16th centuries, including the Tower of Belem. Our next stop will be the St. Jerome Monastery and the Old Coach Museum (both of these locations are closed on Mondays; instead we will visit Ajuda Palace). As we make our way along the river, we will arrive in the Alfama District before we continue to Baixa (Downtown), where we will see important public squares like Trade Square, Rossio Square, and the symbolic Restauradores Square. Once we reach Pombal Square, our focus will shift to the nearby town of Sintra, home to the Royal Palace. After this, we will head to Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point in continental Europe. Afterwards, we will return to Lisbon, where the tour will come to an end. Please see "Departure and Return" for more detailed information regarding pickup and drop-off times and locations.
Lisbon, Portugal
The capital city of Portugal, Lisbon is one of Europe's most important economic centers. It is also one of the most popular tourist destinations. Historically significant locations include Belem Tower and Jeronimos Monastery, which are recognized by UNESCO.
Cape Roca
This cape outside of Lisbon forms the westernmost coastline of Portugal. The iconic lighthouse that sits on the cape has become symbolic of the area as it looks out into the Atlantic Ocean.
Jeronimos Monastery
The Jeronimos Monastery in Lisbon was once the home of the city's Hieronymite religious order, and one of the best examples of the Portuguese Manueline style of architecture. Today, the facility houses the National Archaeology Museum and the Marine Museum.
Alfama District
Alfama, with its winding passages of narrow streets and steep stairways, is Lisbon's oldest district. Its name derives from Arabic because of the city's medieval Muslim rulers. Alfama is home to many restaurants and cafes that showcase live Fado music.
Tower of Belem
This fortified tower off the coast of Lisbon, also known as the Tower of St. Vincent, was built to defend the city in the 16th century. It was built in the Portuguese Manueline style of architecture of the 16th century.
