The country sits between the Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg and France, and the Western Europe circuit runs through all of them in sequence. Brussels falls near the middle of that circuit, so routes starting in Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt or Luxembourg City all reach it, usually within the first two or three days. This means Belgium is rarely a destination on its own and almost always part of a wider itinerary.

Brussels is the stop on these routes. Other Belgian cities do not appear on the itineraries, so a route listing Belgium means time in Brussels rather than a tour of the country. Starting in Brussels puts the city first and gives you the option of time there before departure. Passing through on a route from elsewhere means Brussels is one stop among several, often for part of a day rather than an overnight. Fewer routes start in Brussels than pass through it, so starting there narrows the choice while giving you the city up front.

It varies by route, and the difference matters here more than at some other stops. Routes that overnight in Brussels leave time for the old centre and one or two sights further out. The Netherlands and Luxembourg almost always, since all three sit close together and routes cross them in sequence. Germany and France follow on most itineraries, through Cologne or Trier heading east, or through Paris heading south. Longer routes continue into Switzerland and Italy, and some run east to Prague, Vienna and Budapest. Each tour page lists every country on the route.

It varies by route rather than by country. Some departures are guided in English, some in English and Mandarin Chinese, and some list other languages.
